S a f e t y I n f o IMPORTANT: rm a PROPER DISPOSAL OF THE REFRIGERATOR ti o n Child entrapment and suffocation are not problems of the past. Junked or abandoned refrigerators are still O p dangerous…even if they will sit for “just a few days.” e r If you are getting rid of your old refrigerator, please a t i follow the instructions below to help prevent accidents. n g Before You Throw Away Your Old Refrigerator In s or Freezer: tr u c nTake off the doors. ti o n nLeave the shelves in place so that children may not s easily climb inside. If you intentionally release this CFC refrigerant you can be subject to fines and T r imprisonment under provisions of the Federal Clean ou Air Act. bl e s h o o t i n g T i p s C u s t o m e r S e r v i c e 5 n IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION. o i t a m READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING. r o f n y I WARNING! t e f a S HOW TO CONNECT ELECTRICITY s Do not, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third n o (ground) prong from the power cord. For personal safety, i t uc this appliance must be properly grounded. r t s n The power cord of this appliance is equipped with a 3-prong I g (grounding) plug which mates with a standard 3-prong n i (grounding) wall outlet to minimize the possibility of electric t a r shock hazard from this appliance. e p O Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by a qualified electrician s to make sure the outlet is properly grounded. n o i Where a standard 2-prong wall outlet is encountered, it is your t c u personal responsibility and obligation to have it replaced with a r st properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet. n I n The refrigerator should always be plugged into its own individual o i electrical outlet which has a voltage rating that matches the rating t a l plate. l a t s This provides the best performance and also prevents overloading n I house wiring circuits which could cause a fire hazard from overheated wires. s p Ti Never unplug your refrigerator by pulling on the power cord. g n Always grip plug firmly and pull straight out from the outlet. i t o o Repair or replace immediately all power cords that have become h s frayed or otherwise damaged. Do not use a cord that shows cracks e l or abrasion damage along its length or at either end. b u o When moving the refrigerator away from the wall, be careful not to Tr roll over or damage the power cord. USE OF ADAPTER PLUGS e c i rv Because of potential safety hazards under certain conditions, e S we strongly recommend against the use of an adapter plug. r e m However, if you must use an adapter, where local codes permit, a o t temporary connection may be made to a properly grounded 2-prong s u wall outlet by use of a UL-listed adapter available at most local C hardware stores. 6 S a f e t y I n f o The larger slot in the adapter must be aligned with the larger slot in rm the wall outlet to provide proper polarity in the connection of the a t i power cord. o n When disconnecting the power cord from the adapter, always hold the adapter in place with one hand while pulling the power cord O plug with the other hand. If this is not done, the adapter ground p e terminal is very likely to break with repeated use. ra t i n If the adapter ground terminal breaks, DO NOT USEthe refrigerator g until a proper ground has been established. In s Attaching the adapter ground terminal to a wall outlet cover screw does not tr u ground the appliance unless the cover screw is metal, and not insulated, and the c t wall outlet is grounded through the house wiring. You should have the circuit io checked by a qualified electrician to make sure the outlet is properly grounded. ns I USE OF EXTENSION CORDS n s t a l Because of potential safety hazards under certain la t conditions, we strongly recommend against the use of an io n extension cord. I n s t However, if you must use an extension cord, it is absolutely r u necessary that it be a UL-listed, 3-wire grounding type appliance c t i extension cord having a grounding type plug and outlet and that o n the electrical rating of the cord be 15 amperes (minimum) and s 120 volts. T r o u b l REMEMBER… e s h o o Your continued health and safety are important to us. t i n g Please read and follow this Safety Information carefully. T i p We want you to remain a happy and healthy part of our s GE family.
