RisingculinarystarKathyFang,whogrewupinthekitchenofHouseofNanking,is alsoonetowatch.She’sbuildinguponher“ChoppedChampion”titles,growing mediafan-base,andcontinuallyhoninghersignatureCantonese-inspiredmulticultural cuisineatFangRestaurant. 4 The1990Institute'smissionistodeepencross-culturalunderstandingbetweenourtwo countriesandtofostermoreU.S.-Chinasavvygenerations.Oureventtodaybrings togetherourcommunityandraisesthemuch-neededfundingforourU.S.-China programsforstudents,teachers,womenentrepreneurs,youngprofessionalsandallthe othergroupswereach. 2017isakeygrowthyearfortheInstitute,aswearefocusedon: •Elevatingourflagshipeducationprogram,CHINANOW|ForTeachers, throughformaleducationalpartnerships,byseekingendorsementfromthe NationalCouncilfortheSocialStudies(NCSS)andtakingapilotgroupof teachersfora2018studytourtoChina. •BringinginmorespeakersfromChina,likewiththisyear’sGalaand Symposium,toenhanceallofourprograms–includingourSpeakerSeries, YouthVoicesonChina,andSinoscenti--ournewinitiativeaimedat U.S.-ChinaWomenExecutives&Entrepreneurs. •Servingmoreteachers,youngergenerationsandmillennialsthroughdigital platforms. •LaunchingourfirstTeachers&StudentsFundtohelpsubsidizefeesforthis communitytoattendourevents. Ourboldgoalthisyearistoraiseover$1millioninfundraisingtosupportourgrowth plans. WearegratefultoboththeJ.T.TaiFoundationandBeatriceM.H.YoungFoundations forbeingoursupportingpillars.
