Printed in Singapore by Uta-Print v PREFACE The underlying goal ofthis string conference was to identify future trends in string theory. We therefore had several talks in string theory itself, string phenomenology, exact solutions and mirror symmetry. There was also an informal discussion on the future of string theory. The timing of Strings '95 at USC was very fortuitous as some extremely beautiful and far reaching work was done in 1994. Among the most influential research was that of Seiberg and Witten, Schwarz and Sen and Hull and Townsend. This laid the foundation for much future work on exact non perturbative quantum effective actions, duality symmetries and the string theoretic generalizations of these ideas. All these subjects came together at Strings '95, resulting in a very exciting and stimulating conference. It was the first time that many of the new developments has been discussed at a conference.
