The first volume contains thirteen chapters and the second volume contains twenty- one, making a total of thirty-four chapters. In the first volume, Chapter 4, “Ray Tracing,” by Ricardo Florez-Hernández and Armando Gómez-Vieyra; Chapter 5, “Optical Design and Aberrations,” by Armando Gómez-Vieyra and Daniel Malacara-Hernández; Chapter 9, “Polarization and Polarizing Optical Devices,” by Rafael Espinosa-Luna and Qiwen Zhan; and Chapter 12, “Microscopes,” by Daniel Malacara-Doblado and Alejandro Téllez-Quiñones, have been added. In Volume 2, Chapter 1, “Optics of Biomedical Instrumentation,” by Shaun Pacheco, Zhenyue Chen, and Rongguang Liang; Chapter 7, “Active and Adaptive Optics,” by Daniel Malacara-Hernández and Pablo Artal; Chapter 13, “Color and Colorimetry,” by Daniel Malacara-Doblado; and Chapter 14, “The Human Eye and Its Aberrations,” by Jim Schwiegerling, are new. Most of the rest of the chapters were also updated, some with many changes and others with slight improvements. The contributing authors of some chapters have been modified to include a new collaborator. The general philosophy has been preserved to include many practical concepts and useful data. This work would have been impossible without the collaboration of all authors of the different chap- ters and many other persons. The first editor is grateful to his assistant, Marissa Vásquez, whose con- tinuous and great help was of fundamental importance.
