To get a back ground knowledge of the history of the black races, the reader ss arged to start at the beginning and continte t0 the end. The aim is to present material that will not only inform and interest the reader but ‘will impart eruth, self confidence, and racial pride to the black man, and at the fame time enligiten the general public concerning the conributions 10 civilization of the ancient black races. Tn general, T have tried to follow a chronological ap- proach in the book, but it hes been difficale to maintain a ‘one hundzed per cent comistency. Certain subjects are t0 ome extent repented because I have elsewhere dealt with another phase of the same material, In many caves a re fresher is proviced in order to bring the reader up to date T have consulted many scholars in the compilation of {his work. Basil Davidson is an authority on Aftienn history moreover, Allen H.
