To get a back: ground knowledge of the history of the black races, the resder is urged to start at the beginning and continue to the end, The aim is to present material that will not only inform and interest the reader but will innpart truth, self confidence, and racial pride to the black man, and at the same time enhghten the general public concerning the contributions to civiluation of the aucient black races In general, I have tried to follow a chronological. ap- proach in the book, but it bas been dificule to maintsin a fne hundred per cent consistency. Certain subjects are 10 some extent repeated Decause I have elsewhere dealt with another pase of the same materil. In many cases are: fresher i provided in order to bring the reader up to date. T have consulted many scholars in the compilation of this work. Basil Davidson is an authority on African history: moreover, Allen H. Tt behooves me to express my debt to the faculty of Grav College who taught me much, and helped make this book possible. Among these are such distinguished scholars as Dr. Elazar Goelman (Dean), Daniel Isiacman (Registrar) Dr. William Chomsky, Dr. Samuel Pilik, Dr. Samuel K land, Dr. Sidney M.
