OUR PROMISE TO YOU 2011 Annual Report Frauenshuh Cancer Center 2011 Annual Report Table of contents 3 Note to our colleagues 5 2011 highlights 7 Team spotlight 8 2011 awards and achievements 9 Oncology registry 13 Breast cancer 20 Oncology research review 23 Donors for 2011 30 Cancer committee 2 A note to our colleagues Dear colleagues, Frauenshuh Cancer Center had a number of important achievements during 2011, all focused on continually improving our Patient and Family Experience. As a result of these achievements, we have expanded our range of services and support while improving the efficiency, safety and precision of our care. We have transitioned to Epic, a more fully integrated, comprehensive electronic medical record (EMR). The transition was a multi-year initiative for all of Park Nicollet Health Services. On Oct. 26, 2011, Epic moved us into the era of computerized order entry (CPOE). This enhances the safety and accuracy of chemotherapy and other treatment. Epic also improves our communication with patients through MyChart. Patients can access portions of their EMR any time, from anywhere, at mychart.parknicollet.com. During 2011, we strengthened Frauenshuh Cancer Center’s Integrative Medicine services, doing more to meet patients’ mental and emotional needs. Our integrative therapy offerings include healing touch, massage, acupressure, Reiki and reflexology. They are offered free of charge and supported by a Park Nicollet Foundation grant. Our goal is to heal bodies, minds and spirits through state-of- the-art medical treatment and integrative therapies. In December 2011, our cancer program was the only Minnesota recipient of a three-year certification from the American Society of Clinical Oncology Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) and “accreditation with commendation” from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) as a Teaching Hospital Cancer Program. These accreditations recognize our high-quality care and are valid through 2014. This annual report features a breast cancer clinical update and a discussion of our integrative approach to breast cancer care from Amy Spomer, MD. During 2011, many patients and former patients designated Park Nicollet Foundation gifts to support Frauenshuh Cancer Center. We are moved by and grateful for their support. We want to thank everyone who contributed to our successes during 2011, including donors (see Page 23), our cancer committee members (see Page 30), our Patient Advisory Board and cancer program team members. If you have comments or questions about this report or our comprehensive cancer services, please call 952-993-3248. Sincerely, Mark A. Wilkowske, MD Laura J.
