AN ORDINANCE approving the awarding of I.T.B. #7359-
PURCHASE OF AGGREGATES FOR 1997 by the City of
Fort Wayne, Indiana, by and through its Department of
Purchasing and STONECO, OLD PRAIRIE, CANYON SAND,
ROLLING ROCK, FRANCE STONE AND HORSTMAN for
various departments of the City of Fort Wayne.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA;
SECTION 1. That I.T.B. #7359-PURCHASE OF AGGREGATES FOR 1997 between
the City of Fort Wayne, by and through its Department of Purchasing and STONECO, OLD
PCF©O—O©NP=O
PRAIRIE, CANYON SAND, ROLLING ROCK, FRANCE STONE AND HORSTMAN for various
Departments of the City of Fort Wayne, respectfully for:
the purchase of aggregates during 1997 for various
departments of the City of Fort Wayne through the Street
Department;
involving a total cost of Two Hundred Twenty Thousand Four Hundred Seventy-Five and
no/100 Dollars ($220,475.00) - (STONECO - $34,000.00; PRAIRIE-$11,000.00; CANYON -
$10,475.00; ROLLING ROCK - $24,000.00; FRANCE - $103,000.00; HORSTMAN -
$38,000.00), all as more particularly set forth in said I.T.B. #7359, which is on file in the Office of
the Department of Purchasing, and is by reference incorporated herein, made a part hereof,
and is hereby in all things ratified, confirmed and approved.
SECTION 2. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage and any and all necessary approval by the Mayor.

RE: # 7359 - Aggregates
The Park Department would like to continue with the purchase of stone and soil with the same
vendors as in ie past. Travel time adds to the cost of the material. Though France Stone's material
price is not low, the short travel time justifies the cost. France Stone does border our City limits.
Longer travel time to other stone companies, does not only include the cost of the driver picking up
the material bu‘ adds time and money to the individual job or project.
To purchase P-gravel and top soil | would like to continue with Old Prairie Products. Old Prairie has
the best quality of top soil in the area. This is important for Park Department needs. The Park
Department uses P-gravel around playgrounds and for warning tracks along outfield fences. Old
Prairie is one of the few vendors who provides P-gravel.

France Stone: 10F, 2. 53,73, 9, 11, rip rap stone. & 17 sand, mason sand.
Old Prairie Products: Screened top soil and washed P-gravel

year 1997 for Water Pollution Control and Stormwater Maintenance Departments.
Summary
In order for our department to make sewer repairs and other work related to the
maintenance of the Fort Wayne City Utility sewer system in a timely manner, approval of
this bid would be greatly appreciated by our department and City Utility customers.

The application of the purchase of aggregates to be picked up by
the Street Department will be for the making of asphalt, gravel
berm and alley maintenance, chip and seal and back fill.
The purchase of sand to be delivered to the Street Department will
be primarily for making asphalt. This is a state approved gradated
sand designed for this use. It will also be used for making
sandbags if needed.
The purchase of top soil to be picked up by the Street Department
will be for various restoration projects.
