Herrett succeeds Lyle Laverty who became director of the Recreation, Cultural Resources and Wilderness Management Staff in the Forest Service’s national office in Washington, DC. Herrett was Forest Supervisor of the Siuslaw National Forest in Corvallis before she began her new assignment on October 19. "Wendy is an excellent addition to our management team and will provide quality leadership in recreation, wilderness management, and heritage resources," said Lowe. Herrett received her bachelor of landscape architecture degree from the University of Oregon in 1970 and was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University in 1983. She began her Forest Service career in 1970 as a landscape architect in the Pacific Northwest Regional Office. She had other assignments with recreation responsibilities on the Mt. Hood National Forest, the Routt National Forest in Colorado, and the Black Hills National Forest in South Dakota. Herrett became a district ranger on the White River National Forest in Colorado in 1979 and was transferred to the Forest Service’s national office in 1984 to serve on the legislative affairs staff where she had primary responsibility for recreation issues. She returned to Oregon in 1986 as Deputy Forest Supervisor of the Mt. Hood National Forest and in 1990 was made Forest Supervisor of the Siuslaw National Forest. She and her husband, Tom, live in Salem.
