Commodity and country information is for the most recent 2-year period. Statistics for calendar year 1994 are preliminary. U.S. foreign agricultural trade statistics in this report were derived from official data released by the Bureau of the Census. Agricultural commodities are defined as (1) nonmarine food products and (2) other products of agriculture, including fibers, raw hides and skins, fats and oils, and beer and wine, which have not passed through complex processes of manufacture. Such manufactured products as textiles, leather, boots and shoes, cigarettes, naval stores, forestry products, and distilled alcoholic beverages are not considered agricultural. The trade statistics exclude shipments between the 50 States and Puerto Rico, between the 50 States and the island possessions, between Puerto Rico and the island possessions, among the island possessions, and in-transit through the United States from one foreign country to another when documented as such by the U.S. Customs Service. Trade statistics for selected nonagricultural products, including fertilizer, fish, agricultural chemicals, farm machinery, and manufactured tobacco, are presented at the end of the commodity group tables. Exports Export data include "exports of domestic merchandise," defined as commodities grown, produced, or manufactured in the United States, and commodities of foreign origin that have been changed from the form in which they were imported. The export value is generally equivalent to a free-alongside-ship (f.a.s.) value at the U.S. port of export, based on the transaction price and including inland transportation, insurance, and other costs. Agricultural exports have been adjusted for transshipments through Canada based on information provided by the Federal Grain Inspection Service. More than 500 revisions have been incorporated into the 1993 tables. Imports Import data are "imports for consumption," which include entries for immediate consumption and withdrawals from bonded Customs warehouses. The import value is defined as the "Customs value," based on the foreign market value, export value, or constructed value, and excludes import duties, freight, insurance, and other charges incurred in moving the commodity to the U.S. port. 1 COUNTRY GROUPINGS NORTH AMERICA OTHER WESTERN EUROPE GREENLAND ICELAND CANADA SWEDEN ST.
