Arrowtooth flounder, Pacific halibut, sablefish, Pacific cod, bigmouth sculpin, big skate, and Bering skate were the main piscivores. Walleye pollock were the dominant prey fish. The main predators that fed on Tanner crabs were Pacific halibut, Pacific cod, big skate, longnose skate, and great sculpin. Flathead sole, sharpchin rockfish, rougheye rockfish, longnose skate, and walleye pollock were the main consumers of pandalid shrimp. Sharpchin rockfish, Pacific ocean perch, redbanded rockfish, Atka mackerel, and pollock fed mainly on zooplankton (mainly euphausiids and calanoid copepods). Southern rock sole, northern rock sole, rex sole, Dover sole, deepsea sole, and darkfin sculpin were benthic feeders; they fed mainly on polychaetes, marine worms, and brittle stars. v CONTENTS ABSTRACT .............................................. iii INTRODUCTION .......................................... 1 METHODS .............................................. 3 RESULTS and DISCUSSION ............................... 10 Walleye pollock .................................... 10 Pacific cod ........................................ 19 Arrowtooth flounder ................................ 31 Pacific halibut .................................... 39 Sablefish ......................................... 50 Spiny dogfish ..................................... 60 Big skate ......................................... 62 Bering skate ...................................... 64 Longnose skate .................................... 67 Alaska skate ...................................... 69 Eulachon .......................................... 71 Shortfin eelpout .................................. 74 Black eelpout ..................................... 77 Wattled eelpout ................................... 79 Giant grenadier ................................... 82 Rougheye rockfish ................................. 85 Pacific ocean perch ............................... 88 Redbanded rockfish ................................ 91 Shortraker rockfish ............................... 94 Dusky rockfish .................................... 98 Sharpchin rockfish ................................ 101 Shortspine thornyhead ............................ 106 Atka mackerel ..................................... 111 Spinyhead sculpin ................................. 116 Yellow Irish lord ................................. 119 Bigmouth sculpin .................................. 122 Darkfin sculpin ................................... 126 Great sculpin ..................................... 130 Dusky snailfish ................................... 133 Pacific sandfish .................................. 136 Searcher .......................................... 139 Northern ronquil .................................. 142 Deepsea sole ...................................... 144 Rex sole .......................................... 147 Flathead sole ..................................... 152 Butter sole ....................................... 157 vi Southern rock sole ................................ 159 Northern rock sole ................................ 165 Yellowfin sole .................................... 170 Dover sole ........................................ 175 SUMMARY .............................................. 179 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS ...................................... 187 CITATIONS ............................................ 189
