Thestudy focusesonthecaseofLimondelaCerca,Honduras,acommunitysettledby904families fromthecityofCholuteca,wholosttheirhomesin1998duringHurricaneMitch.Inthe caseofthislocality,conditionsofcrisisweresynthesizedinmomentswhenaidresources weredistributedandarrangedbyinstitutionalactorsonthebasisofnotionsofsocialand economicnaturesthatwerenotsharedorintelligibletodisastersurvivors.Theconditions ofcrisisthatImakereferencetointhisethnographyinclude1)theconstmctionofover 1,000homeswhosedimensionsdidnotsuitthelogistical,sensory,andaestheticneedsof disastersurvivorsandwhichcouldnotwithstandtheenvironmentalstressesofthe reconstructionsite,2)thedisintegrationofpre-hurricaneneighborhoodconstituencies whichprovidedassistancewithchildcare,playedasignificantroleincrimeprevention, andwereofprimaryimportanceincreatingasenseofplaceandcommunityfordisaster x
