She moved in with my parents. and spent about 1/2 her time with my parents and Joe's grandmother Woodia Wolf Chasteen. My grandmother knew how to do the old things like make soap, make hominy, etc. She had a shuck bed that I remember sleeping on. In 1933 I was 5 years old and she helped mother me. She was always opposed to playing of any kind of card game. She thought womem should always wear a dress and was opposed to any dancing. However, I don't think her views on these matters were much different for women of her time. Grandma fell and broke her hip just after my dad was drafted into the navy in 1943. She was never very mobile after that. Oh she walked with one of those frame walkers. She suffered a stroke about 1952 and was never mobile at all after that. My mother nursed her for a long time and she died in 1957 at London.KY. Both her and Grandpa are buried in the Oak Hill cemetery which is about 3 miles from Renfro Valley. My parents are buried in the same cemetery. Grandma and Aunt Matt also alway wore a bonnet when outside. Next time I will tell you more about aunt Matt. Notes for Stephen Tribble Bryant: Eyes Dark. Hair Black. Hello, My name is Mary DiOrio (Bryant). I hope you don't mind me emailing about the Bryant genealogy that I saw on your webpage. This past weekend I got started on a very addicting journey of ATTEMPTING to find out information about the Bryant side of my family. I am twenty-seven years old and know absolutely nothing about my father's ancestors due to some unfortunate circumstances. My uncle does the Genealogy for my mother's side of the family, and after Easter dinner he showed me your website in which he believes shows some of my ancestors. I was hoping that you might be able to lead me in the right direction. My grandfather's name was John James Bryant. He was the illegitimate child (we believe) of Trebble John Bryant and Mary Jessie Higinbothem. By all accounts my grandfather never knew his father, and his mother died when he was young in a tragic accident. The only information that we have is from his birth certificate. It says he was born on May 3, 1909 in Orlando, Kentucky (Rockcastle). I am in the process of trying to contact the cemetery for the correct spelling of Higinbothem because it is spelled in two different ways on the birth certificate. She was born in Hawthorne, Kentucky (Campbell County). My uncle and I noticed the you mentioned a Tribble Bryant in Rockcastle, Kentucky through your research of Missouri Bryant. I am assuming that this might be the same person with different spellings of Trebble. The birthdate is not listed for Trebble John Bryant. Due to Mary Jessie's early death, my grandfather never knowing Trebble John, and a lack of any known relative outside of my grandfather I have hit a loss. You did not list much information on Tribble Bryant on your website. Only that he married Eva. Do you have any suggestions for me, or can you lead me in the right direction for any information on the Bryant's from Rockcastle since that is what is listed on his birth certificate. I think this means more to my own father than even I realize. I thank you in advance for any information that you may or may not be able to give. My deepest gratitude to you for reading this essay of an email. -Mary DiOrio November 22, 2007 9:29 PM Mrs. S. T. Bryant left Thursday for a visit with her parents who live near Covington. ? She died Aft. 1880 in RockCastle Co., Ky. . She [1, 2] [1, 2] . was the daughter of 18. Emanuel? Pence and 19. Catherine? Unknown. Notes for Harriet Pence: Name: Emanuel PENCE 1 Sex: M Birth: 1762 in Frederick County, VA Death: 1811 in Lincoln Co., KY Note: Since early migrations often involved family groups and Emanuel was the only one of his Pence family to go to Lincoln County, a careful check of early census and marriage records of that county was made in an effort to perhaps identify other Shenandoah County families, but no names common to the latter county were apparent. The definitive proof is so far lacking that this Emanuel with wife Catherine is the same as the Emanuel with wife Catherine in Lincoln County, but there is ample and convincing circumstantial evidence to support this contention. Emanuel is a name rarely encounterd among Pence families, and this individual has been the only one discovered in Virgina for this period. Emanual Pence bought a portion of his father's original land grant from his brother, Lewis, on 9 Jun 1800; on 7 Sep 1801, he sold this same land to Adam Kibler (probably his brother-in-law) and to Jacob Pence (son of Henry) and his name does not appear on the Shenandoah County records after that date. Emanuel Pence bought 250 acres of land on Logan's Creek (later called Dix's Creek) in Lincoln County from Jacob Swope in early 1802. Emanuel, oder than age 45, is the head of a household in Lincoln County in 1810; Catherine appears as the head of the household in 1820 and 1830. The census records indicate they may have had as many as five sons and ten daughters but, since Catherine was older than 55 in 1820, it is probable the two females under 10 that year were grandchildren. It appears, however, that by 1845, when the oldest son John made his will, there were but three living sons: John, Adam and Emanuel. John also mentioned his sisters but did not name them. Eleve children can be inferred from census and marriage records of Lincoln County; one son appears to have died young. The birthplace for the older children is given as Virginia on later census records. [Descendants in Lincoln County; many want to Illinois and Missouri, then elsewhere.] Father: Jacob PENCE b: 14 DEC 1727 in Iggelheim, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany Page 10 of 314 Saturday, April 28, 2012 9:44:33 PM
