We would like to thank maintenance for the hard work and dedication that they have provided for Fisher College. Many services they have provided consist of; painting dorm rooms, repairing the bath- rooms, setting up the auditorium for special events, and other odd jobs throughout our campus. None of thesejobs have gone unnoticed and are all greatlyap- preciated.Thanksagain. Sheldon E. Barron Facilities Manager David Chamberland Joseph Getchell To the Class of 1993 Too frequently as individuals and as a society we focus on our extensive diversities. How we differ by language, creed, or ances- tral origin often enjoys more meaningful status than those things we share in common. This diversion becomes so engrossing it manifests itself in fistfights or global wars. In the end, people and nations always lose. Smiling is the most easy facial expression; frowning requiring significantly more muscular activity and effort. Similarly, it is easier to identify those positive attributes which human beings and their societies hold in common than to orient our thoughts on defining diversity. No matter what our differences, we all long for basic security and well-being, for comfort and pleasant new ex- perience, for rewarding lives and safety for our loves ones. Good fortune for others is pleasing to us, especially if we assist its on- coming. Our destiny is inextricably linked to others. Just as all ships rise with the tide, good times seem to come to us collectively and such should be our goal by action and deed. The great books, the Torah, the Koran, and the Bible all admonish us to work together to bring about the good blessings of life. Let us heed this sage advice even within our diversities, let us nourish those threads that give us common bond. Let us strive with unity of purpose and friendly collaboration. The strengths of our diversity realize their greatest triumph only when aligned with the common good. Your education at Fisher College has sought to describe diverse knowledge about human beings, their society, their sciences, their history, and their behavior. Your increased understanding will allow you to make greater contributions throughout life as you recognize the value of diversity combined in common goals. Use our uniqueness with others to bring about the joys of life. President Scott A. Fisher, Ed.D. Vice President's Message Two years have past since you began your education at Fislier College. You have been fortunate to be the first recipients of the Fisher International Research Seminar Trips. Not only have you attended Fisher College with many students from different countries and family backgrounds, but you have ex- plored the richness of other countries. Together we have traveled to Spain and France experiencing the culture, foods and tradi- tions of these twogreat countries. Diversity permeates this country. It has become and will continue to be a diversified society. With your educational experience of world travel and your academic skills obtained at Fisher, you have become a totally educated woman. Take this knowledge you have learned and help this country become a place you and future generations will continue to live and thrive in. We will miss the Class of 1993. Good Luck Roberta E. Cantor Vice President for Administration Dean's Message The years spent in college are supposed to be a reflection of and preparation for later years of work, service and life within a community. In earlier times, a student could attend a college and mix with the same kind of persons with whom he/she had grown up. Even today, some people choose colleges where they won't have to meet anyone o—ther than members of their own race, religio or national background. For such individuals, there is a clear definition of community it is the one into which they are born and from which they will die. Forthem, college is adifferent form oftheircommunity withclassrooms anddormitories insteadofhomes and stores. Today, any American who defines his/her community and automatically excludes members of other races, religions and nationalities is an anachronism. If that person expects to succeed in a competitive industry or flourish in a profession, that person might as well quit before she begins. And, if that is what later life is going to require, why waste two or four years in a sterile collegiate environment where everyone you meet looks, sounds and acts just like you? This is not a concern for a Fisher student in 1993. In our classes, corridors an—d dormitories, students from all corners of the earth and from all the major ethnic groupings of America study and work together most often amicably, but not always. This is OK. Communities which include rather than exclude are not going to always operate with perfect harmony. This is also going to be true of any community which expects to thrive in the 21st century. I congratulate the staff of the yearbook for recognizing a strength of Fisher College. In a supportive community on Beacon Street, Fisher College prepares its graduates for an interconnected, interdependent world community which will be their home for the rest of their lives. Rodney Hinkle J. Dean of the College October 8, 1992
