Thistriennial revaluation takes into accountchanges in the real estate market by setting values that reflect actual market conditions over the past year. The City ofBoston Assessing Department is in the final stages ofcompleting the FY2004 revaluation process. The Assessing Department has carefully collected, researched and analyzed real estate market data relating to ownership, condition of property and occupancy of each property as ofJanuary 1, 2003, the assessment date for FY2004. In virtually all of Boston's neighborhoods, the market values of residential property increased steadily from January 2000 through December 2002 due to rising sale prices in a very active market. These marketcondi- tions represent a majorfactor in the establishment ofthe preliminary assessment contained in this notice. A FY2004 preliminary property value is indicated on the revaluation assessment notice below. A projected annual tax amount based upon existing state law has also been included. Important information on tax relief legislation for residential taxpayers is enclosed.
