Thc genus has previously been reported from the Orienta alnd Australi arengions. Key words Eucsoniini ,Heleanna tt{tpinivora, sp, nov., Heleanna tok},oensis, sp. nov., larva ,pupa, fauna, Introduction The genus Heleanna Clarke ,1976 is a smal1 genus of the tribe Eucsomini distribut iend the Orienta land Australian regionsl containing four describe dand one undescribed species (Clarke19,76; Horak 1996;Nasu,1995,1999;Brown,2005;Horak,2006).Because et al., the members of the genus are externally very similar to each other in appearance, the most usefu1 characters for recognizing species are the genital ifceature sof both sexes. Horak (2006 l)iste dseveral characters on the adults supporting the monophyly of the genus, e. g. face flattene adn, oyate depressio non the basal area of the upperside fbrewin gfille wdith whitish, modified scales and covered with large d,omed scales, and stalked R, and R, in the forewing .Until now, only one species, H, fitku Ngaisu, 1999 has been recorded from the Ryukyus in Japan (Nasu ,l999), and no species from Korea, During examination of material from Japan and Korea, we fbund two new species of the genus. We herei ndescrib ethe two new species, with illustrati oofn sadults, genital ianad immature stages, and discus sthe morphological characters of the immature stages of the genus. Materials and methods The present study is based on specimens feeding on 7berpini aternata Nakai collected from Okinawa and on a moth collected in the Garden of the Imperial Palace, [[bkye, Japan ,and a specimen from Jeju-d oIsland K,orea. Discussion The genus Heleanna is distribut eidn the Orienta land Australia rnegions, and fiv especies including an undescribed one have been recorded to date (Clar kle9,76; Horak et al., 1996; Nasu, 1995, 1999; Brown, 2005; Horak, 2006) ,As the two new species are describe dfrom Honshu of Japan and from Korea in the present study, the genus is recorded from the Palaearcti cregion for the firs ttime, The host-plant sand feeding habits of the fiv especies are as fbllows ,These larva efeed on seyeral plant sof various familie sand are stem- or fruit-bore srosme, times leaf rollers: H. physalode f(iMeyric k1,910) feeds on the flower buds NII-Electronic Library Service TThhee LLeepipdiopdteorpoltoegircaollSoocgieitycal Society ooff JJaapapnan Heleanna, New to the Palaearctjs a,nd Two New Specie sfi:o mJapan and Korea 385 of Barringtoni (aLecythidac tehae ef)ru,i tof Coidia (Boraginace aaend) ,Catophyllum ino- ph>,tt"m (Guttife r(Calea)rk e1,976); H. melanomochta (Meryic k1,936) fold sthe leaf of MangijleraindicaL. Detailed informatio nhas been given on the immature stages of the three species, H, melanomochla (Nasu ,1995), H. ,fi{kug i(Nasu ,1999) and H. tuilpinivova, The larvae and pupae of the three species have several commen characters, The larva has the same chaeto- taxy: on abdominal segment 9, D2s on acommon pinaculum ,Dl and SDI on acommon pinaculum and L group trisetos eon a common pinaculum; SV group on abdominal seg- ments 1, 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9 consisting of 3, 3, 3, 2, 2 and2 setae, respectively. The thoracic leg of the larv ahas a pai rof enlarged, blade-li kperetars aseltae. Simila rsetae are also found in several species of Tortricid a(eNas uand "Ibminaga, 2005) .Nasu et al. (2004 s)uggested the possibili tthyat these enlarged setae are characteristic of larvae that bore int ofruit osr stems and mine leaves because simi]ar setae are observed jn various familie se,. g. Incurvariidae, LyonetiidaeP,alaephatidacE,IachistidaeC,osmopterigidaeP,eleopodidae,Heliodinidae, and Copromorphidae ,and most of these larva eare known as stem- or fruit-bor eorrs leaf miners. However, the functio nof the setae is unknown and many exceptions are present within the Tbrtricida e(Nas uand rlbminaga, 2005), Further research is necessary te show the functio nof the setae. A small circular plate is present antero-dorsad from the ventral proleg on abdominal segments 3-6 of the larva .The functio nof the plate is unknown, but the structure is widely distribut eidn the [Ibrtrici d(aKeoma i1,999; Nasu and Tominaga, 2005; Nasu et at,, 2005) .The pupa has three pair sof setae on the clypeus and four pair sof hooked setae on abdominal segment 10. The shared possessio nof these characters is con- sidered to support the monophyly of Heleanna though the characters are not peculia rto the genus. Acknowledgments We thank Dr M.
