SECTION 01100 SUMMARY SRTA –FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS June 10, 2015 SECTION 01100 SUMMARY PART 1 –GENERAL 1.01 SECTION INCLUDES A. Summary of Work to be delivered under a Single Prime Contract. B. Project Identification: The Project consists of Work at Southeastern Regional Transit Authority (SRTA). The Project Site is located at the following street address: 1. 65 Potomska Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts B. Contracts 1. A Single Prime Contractor will perform the Project under a Lump SumContract with the Owner. 2. Measurement of construction progress and progress payments will be as defined in the Owner-Contractor Agreement. C. General 1. Provide all labor and materials, including engineered design, of the new underground water main to be provided to supply the new sprinkler systems at the SRTA facility. The new water line will be 6 inches minimum, comply with all codes, laws, ordinances, and local New Bedford requirements. The new connection is to be to the water line in the street, and include all fittings, thrust blocks, gate valve and PIV valve, and materials necessary to provide a fully compliant system. Provide for all repair and necessary temporary use of the facility. Trenching and other work will need to be coordinated with the owner. Asphalt and site conditions are to be repaired to original and in conformance with all codes and regulations as acceptable to the Owner and City. Section 01100 Page 1of 10 SRTA –FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS June 10, 2015 2. Provide all labor, materials, and system design for a pre-engineered dry chemical gas fueling station suppression system for the fuel pump on the side of the building. Provide for a manually activated system, monitored by the building fire alarm panel. 3. Provide all labor and materials for hydrostatic testing of the new pipingsystems. The testing should be for 225 psi for 2-hours, orper NFPA standards for hydrostatic testing of fire protection systems. 4. Provide all materials and labor necessary for the furnishing, and installation, testing, and commissioning of a new fire main piping, underground piping work, electrical and mechanical services, and other work as required for the new fire alarm and fire protection systems, hereafter referred to as the Work (or System). 5. Provide all materials and labor necessary for the complete installation of the fire protection pipingand associated scope of work for a system that meets all manufacturer requirements, state laws and local ordinances, and meets the requirements ofSRTA’insurer. It is the contractor’s responsibility to make themselves familiar all of the AHJand manufacturer’s requirements. 6. The Contractor shall provide a “turn-key” Project, which shall include the fire protection piping, fittings,civil/site work, all electrical civil and other subcontractors, and including all permits, fees, submittals, installation, acceptance testing and final approvals. The Prime Contractor shall assign a Project Manager and job-site Superintendentfor the duration of the Project. The Superintendent shall be full time and on site at all time while work is being performed by his/her own employees ( GC’s employees), or any subcontractor’s employees. This requirement shall also apply to punchlist work. The Superintendent shall not be replaced, or substituted including at the time of punchlistwork without written consentofthe Owner. 7. Work shall be subject to the terms and conditions contained in the Owner- Contractor Agreement or other supplementary Contract Documents, as prepared and provided by the Owner. The Contract Documents are the minimum requirement and any more stringent requirements within the Owner-Contractor Agreement shall be met, and all codes, rules, and regulations shall be met. 8. All work shall be performed in accordance with the Contract Documents and good workman like practice. No modifications to theContract Documents will be accepted without the expressed written approval of the Owner. It is the Contractor's responsibility to document Owner's approval of any such modifications prior to the execution of work. 9. Contractor shall field verify all information contained on the Contract Drawings and is responsible for the shop drawings showing all the necessary information for the final installation (pipingrouting, site work,building construction, panel details, etc.) and installation of the System in accordance with the Contract Documents. The Contract Drawings are schematic in nature and do not show all information necessary for a complete installation of the System, but are intended to be used as a guide by the Contractor for the purpose of bidding. 10. The drawings are designed to show intent and provide specific components for the fire protection piping project. The Contractor is responsible for developing the Section 01100 Page 2of 10 SRTA –FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS June 10, 2015 Ways and Means for the installation, including but not limited to erosion protection and protection of continuity of the operation of the facility during construction. This may require weekend cut over of facilities with approval of SRTA. D. Intent of Specifications 1. It is intended that the Work performed pursuant to the Contract Documents be complete in every respect, resulting in systems installed entirely in accordance with applicable codes, standards, manufacturer’s recommendations, Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) listings and FM Global Approved Equipment. 2. All sections and appendices as provided as part of this specification are considered part of this specification. This includes all drawings and RFI’s. 3. It is further intended that, upon completion of the Work, the Owner be provided with: a. Complete information and drawings describing and depicting the entire systems as installed, including all information necessary for maintaining, troubleshooting, and/or expanding the systems at a future date. b. Complete documentation of systems testing. c. Certification that the entire system has been inspected and tested, is installed entirely in accordance with applicable codes, standards, manufacturer’s recommendations, ULlistings, and FM approvals, and is in proper working order. d. Electroniccopy and hardcopy of the custom fire alarm system program developed for this Facility. Information shall contain all actions, rules, and all other details to allow the Owner, at his discretion, to use an alternate manufacturer certified system service company to perform service, maintenance, and additions at a future date. The database shall be provided after final System acceptance has been secured. E. Work Covered by Contract Documents 1. First phase of the work is to provide inspection of existing systems and piping, and bring to the attention of the owner any problems that may impact the work. 2. General: Provide all materials and labor for the designof shop drawingsand installation of a new fire protection piping with new sprinkler including site work for underground and new valve housesand all accessories in accordance with the applicable codes and all requirements of this specification. a. Electrical: Electrical work includes providing wiring and termination points for electrical conduits that may be required to be relocated, and provide wiring for termination of automatic sprinkler monitoring points and new fire alarm system in its entirety. b. Mechanical: The work here should conform to the existing conditions and not impact existing mechanical systems.Piping and sprinklers are to be designed to avoid existingsystems. Structural: Provide supports as shown and notify Owner of any potential deviations, and obtain written permission prior to any alterations. d. Civil: Provide underground piping work with new underground gates and PIV.Provide bollards to protectthe PIV which is to be located adjacent to the building. e. Piping: Provide all fittings, valves, and provide proper protection of penetrations including but not limited to fire stopping penetrations to the fire resistance rating of the wall. Provide fire protection of piping passing through hazardous areas. 3. Sprinkler Monitoring Points: Provide, install, and properly adjust sprinkler system supervisory switches and waterflow indicators as required herein, and as required per NFPA 13. 4. Low Point Drains: Provide low point drains where piping elevation does not permit draining back to one of the valve houses. 5. Submittals: Prepare and submit subcontractor list, shop drawings, product lists, work schedules, samples, licenses and certificates, contractor record drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and other submittals required herein. Six (6) submittals are required for each system. 6. Tests: Test the fire protection piping (provide above and below ground piping certificates), provide flushing and sanitization of new piping, hydrotest system, and provide all electrical tests. The flushing and sanitization program shall be approved by SRTAprior to work. The Contractor shall be responsible for the execution and documentationof required tests. All testdocumentation shall be provided to the Owner as part of the closeout documentation. Owner may not accept ownership, and warranty of the system until test documentation showing all tests passed have been provided. 7. Products: In some instances specific product and manufacturers are specified. Owner may approve equivalent products based on Contractor submittal information. All equivalent products must be approved by Owner in writing, and is wholly at the discretion of the Owner. 8. Warranty: Warranty all new equipment and systems during installation and for a one (1)-year period after final acceptance of the work by the Owner. a. Provide testing of new and existing equipment, and repair as necessary, during the warranty period up to and including the first annual tests, as required in NFPA 25, NFPA 72, and New Hampshire Fire Prevention Code for fire alarm systems as a minimum. Contractor shall test each device as it is installed and subsequently in witness by the Owner’s representative and shall be in attendance and perform all tests required by the authorities having jurisdiction. b. Any manufacturer’s warranties that extend over 1-year are to be extended to the owner at no extra charge. Section 01100 Page 4of 10 SRTA –FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS June 10, 2015 9. Approvals: Obtain all approvals required for the work of this section from all public authorities having jurisdiction and from the project insurer. 10. Permits and Fees: Pay all fees required to obtain permits or approval of this work. a. Obtain and secure all permits and inspections necessary to perform the Work. Coordinate andattend all inspections and perform all testing required for approval of the System by the authorities having jurisdiction. 11. Valves: Provide all new control valves and other appurtenances as shown. Existing sprinkler valves are to be connected to the newsystem. New sprinkler control valves are required for and shown in certain instances. 12. Fire Alarm: Contractor shall provide fire alarm integrationwith other systems where required. 13. Shutdowns: Notify the New BedfordFire Department and SRTA of any shutdowns. Note that a construction schedule will be required within two weeks of the successful bid providing all specific site impact details, and further one (1) week prior to the anticipated shutdowns, all parties will be notified by voice and letter. 14. Notification: The Contractor shall on a daily basis be responsible for notifying and securing approval from the Owner to perform all and any impairments. 15. Trades: A single contractor shall coordinate all work for the installation and proper operation of thefire protection system,exterior civil work, and fire alarm. 16. Testing: Test and adjust all new fire alarm and sprinkler equipment and systems in accordance with NFPA 13, 72,24, and 25. Include any existing equipment (water flow switches, tamper switches, piping, valves, etc.)maintained as part of the new systems. Perform additional tests as required by local authorities. 17. Meetings: Attend a pre-construction conference and weekly construction progress meetings with the Owner, and prepare and distribute minutes of these meetings. Meeting minutes shall be distributed to all attached ad Owner’s distribution list three (3) days prior to each meeting. The Owner will schedule construction coordination meetings. The Contractor shall attend, document, and distribute meeting minutes through the project duration included to the completion of the punch list and one closeout meeting the week following the punch list completion. 25. Training: Provide system training for the Owner’s personnel. 26. Storage: Provide secure “off-site” and “on-site” storage facilities for all materials and equipment in accordance with the materials and equipment manufacturer’s specified storage requirements for the duration of the Project. a. All unused equipment, devices, and panels shall be removed from the Project Site and discarded, as directed by the Owner. Section 01100 Page 5of 10
