The National Film Library is part of the National Library of New Zealand, Te Puna Matauranga O Aotearoa. The National Film Library is a collection of educational film and video specially selected to support New Zealand educational programmes. Who may use the National Film Library? The National Film Library services are available to: * all schools * tertiary institutions * organisations requiring educational purpose material * this service extends to schools in some Pacific Islands. Note: all film library material is subject to strict copyright. What is available? * lf2" VHS PAL video cassettes - nearly 1100 titles, about 10,000 copies - an expanding collection * 16mm films, over 4,000 titles comprising about 18,000 copies * A special collection of New Zealand historical film * The N.Z. Federation of Film Societies has generously made their films available to educational groups studying the history of film * Advice on film/video equipment maintenance * Projectionist certificates - lists of examiners - reels of pracrice film - copies of the 16mm projector booklet. Projectionist certificates are issued after a course of written and practical instruction. These courses are held by registered National Film Library examiners. Selecting a film/video 'i A comprehensive calalogue was published in 1990. It is a free issue to schools. Box Ph: (03) 661-075 Christchurch 5 Film and Video Catalogue lntroduction This supplement is to be consulted together with the main National Film Library Catalogue 1989.Its main sequence is arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System. An alphabetical list of titles of both 16 mm film and 1/2" VHS PAL videos appears at the end of the caulogue. The National Film Library serves bo*r school audiences and other educational $oups. The use of the Dewey Decimal Classification, which brings together items on similar subjects, is intended to bring the National Film Library catalogue into line with the organisation used in school and public libraries. We hope that it will prove convenient for our users. One important group of films is found under the heading of 'Film Appreciation', at the classification 791.43. These films are examples of the film maker's art and offer interesting material not only for film studies, but also for creative language and general enjoyment. We welcome comments on the usefulness of this catalogue. Format choice Please state clearly when you make a request which format, 16 mm film or video, you require. How to use this catalogue This catalogue consists of a sequence of entries in classified order for non-fiction items, and a sequence in alphabetical order by title of hction films.
