In 1954, the Classical Asso¬ ciation celebrated its Jubilee by the issue of a volume to which a number of scholars contributed, under the title Fifty Tears of Classical Scholar¬ ship. Within a decade of its publication this book has be¬ come a rarity, and it has been decided to reprint it with the substitution of one chapter and with appendices repre¬ senting the development of classical studies in the various subjects treated in the book during the last twelve years.
