Abstract Thisreportrepresentsresultsfromastudytodeterminethefatiguestrengthofsteelbeamswithweldedpartial-lengthcoverplates. Resultsofanexperimental investigationthatexaminedthefatiguestrengthofvariouscrackedcoverplateenddetailsthatweresubsequentlyrepairedarepresented. Therepairmethods investigatedincludedaslip-criticalboltedspliceplateconnection,air-hammerpeening,andacombinationoftheprevioustwocalledapartialboltedsplice connection. Also,ananalyticalmodelwasdevelopedtopredictthefatiguebehaviorofacoverplateenddetailthatisrepairedusingoneofthethreerepair methodsinvestigatedandwhichcontainsafatiguecrackofaknownsize. Theresultsofboththeexperimentalandanalyticalstudiesindicatethatataperedcoverplatedetailcanbeeffectivelyrepairedwithacorresponding improvementinthefatigueresistance. 17. Keywords IS.
