Description:

As an orphan who's spent half his life raised in the system in Salt Lake City, Jack Porter knows all about how difficult life can be. He has no illusions about anyone stepping forward to offer him a hand, and is well aware that anything he wants from the future he'll have to earn for himself.

So when a major attack destroys most of the fuel refineries and storage facilities along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, causing the US to run out of gas overnight, Jack isn't too worried. There might be hard times ahead for the country, but he's no stranger to hard times and is prepared to weather this disaster.

Or so he thinks.

The fuel shortage turns out to be a bigger problem than Jack could've ever anticipated. As he watches all shipping to the city trickle to a halt and the shelves in stores swiftly empty, with no chance of being restocked anytime soon, he soon realizes he's in the middle of a genuine disaster. And if imminent starvation wasn't enough of a problem, as Salt Lake City slowly runs out of food social order swiftly breaks down.

Now Jack is trapped in a city on the verge of chaos. He has no food, nowhere to go, and no idea what to do. Not even the difficult life he's led could've prepared him for this, and he's faced with the reality that if he can't think of something he'll become yet another casualty as the city collapses around him.
