We continuetorenewourcurriculumaswell.Thisisthethirdyearfortheenormously popularFirstYearSeminars Program and the second yearforthe Research Opportunities Program. Both programs enable students to work with professors in small, interactive learning environments. The Asia-Pacific Program, introduced this September, joins European Studies and Ibero-American Studies to complete our triad of International Programs. Theseprogramsgivestudents aworkingknowledgeofanew languageas well as an understanding oftheculture, politics and economicsofthe area. Each consists ofa package of existing courses plus one or more new courses created specifically for the program.Anew Archaeologyprogramwillbuildonourconsiderablestrength inthisfield toexplorethestudyofpasthuman societiesin amulti-disciplinarysetting. We are pursuing other improvements to instructional support facilities. Several computer facilities for undergraduate students have been upgraded. We are completely renovating two language laboratories, introducing sophisticated computer-based instructionaltechnologytoenhanceourlanguageteaching.
