With the passage of Measure H the District now has funds available to complete some of the projects. This amendment to the FMP aims to outline the projects being considered and provides guidance on the implementation of those projects, ensuring alignment with the District’s overall educational and facility goals. Campus Fabric Neighborhoods The buildings, circulation pathways, and landscaping of the campus make up its fabric. The existing campus, Exhibit A (page 5), is organized primarily by building numbers and cardinal direction. For example, the parking lots are north, east and south and the math building is 1100. There appears to be a lack of connection between the students or faculty and the purpose of the facilities. It is proposed that the campus be organized into six neighborhoods. Implementing neighborhoods within the overall campus structure would allow students and staff to take ownership of and develop a sense of belonging to their respective area of campus. These neighborhoods, listed below, are shown in Exhibit C on the next page. Academic Neighborhood Each neighborhood should provide areas for students, staff and faculty to interact with each other and their peers. This can be accomplished Athletics Neighborhood through inclusion of exterior and interior spaces that encourage gathering within each neighborhood. Interior spaces can include areas Career Technical Education Neighborhood for dining, studying, and student government and/or clubs. Exterior spaces can include landscaping, walkways, and quads. Public Safety Training Neighborhood While it is important to allow each neighborhood to develop its own Student Services Neighborhood identity, significant effort should be undertaken to developing visual and physical connections between the neighborhoods. Some opportunities Visual and Performing Arts Neighborhood for this are discussed in the next section. Agriculture Neighborhood 7 Facilities Master Plan - Amendment One (May 2018)
