Extreme Control Center®, NAC®, and Purview® Virtual Appliance Installation Guide 7 1 Appliance Deployment Deploying the Virtual Appliance on a VMware ESX Server Deploying the Virtual Appliance on a Hyper-V Server This chapter provides an overview of the Extreme Control Center, NAC, and Purview virtual appliance deployment requirements and provides instructions for deploying a virtual appliance on a VMware® and Hyper-V server. Deploying the Virtual Appliance on a VMware ESX Server Deployment Requirements A virtual appliance is a software image that runs on a virtual machine. The Extreme Control Center, NAC, and Purview virtual appliances are packaged in the .OVA file format defined by VMware and must be deployed on either a VMware ESX™4.0, 4.1, 5.0, or 5.1 server, or a VMware ESXi™ 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, 5.1, or 6.0 server with a vSphere™ 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, or 5.1 client. The Extreme Control Center virtual appliance comes configured with 8 GB of memory, four CPUs, one network adapter, and 100 GB of thick-provisioned hard drive space. The NAC virtual appliance comes configured with 12 GB of memory, four CPUs, two network adapters, and 40 GB of thick-provisioned hard drive space. The Purview virtual appliance comes configured with 8 GB of memory, four CPUs, two network adapters, and 40 GB of thick-provisioned hard drive space. Deploying the Virtual Appliance Use the following steps to deploy a Extreme Control Center, NAC, or Purview virtual appliance on a VMware ESX or ESXi server. Extreme Control Center®, NAC®, and Purview® Virtual Appliance Installation Guide 8 Appliance Deployment 1 Download the Extreme Control Center, NAC, or Purview virtual appliance software image to your local machine where the vSphere client is installed and running. To download an appliance image: 1 Access the Extreme Control Center (NetSight) web page at: http://extranet.extremenetworks.com/downloads/pages/NMS.aspx. 2 After entering your email address and password, you will be on the Extreme Control Center (NetSight) page. 3 Click the Software tab and select a version of Extreme Control Center. 4 Download the Extreme Control Center, NAC, or Purview virtual appliance image from the appropriate section. Extreme Control Center®, NAC®, and Purview® Virtual Appliance Installation Guide 9 Appliance Deployment 2 Open the vSphere client. From the File menu, select Deploy OVF Template. (Even though the virtual appliance is distributed in .OVA file format, the menu option refers to the alternate .OVF format.) The Deploy OVF Template window opens. 3 In the Source panel, use the Browse button to select the appliance image that you downloaded. Click Next.
