“This book reveals findings about specific, age-based changes in the emotional domain of human development that are based on extensive research. The author presents interesting theoretical approaches and empirical data regarding development of emotional maturity of adolescents in general and young adults in particular. Given the centrality of Ukraine in the recent world events and, especially, effects of war on Ukrainian youth, this book has tremendous potential to be of interest to many researchers, psychologists, educators and other professionals”. — Alexander W. Chizhik, Ph.D., Professor of Educational Psychology “Oleksiy Chebykin details extensive research into this important topic, considering how rapidly changing and challenging living conditions impact upon emotional development and in turn on personality development through childhood and beyond. Presenting theoretical and empirical data, this book will also inform the design of interventions to support young people growing up in adverse conditions. Topics examined include positive and negative ten- dencies in the development of emotional traits; individual characteristics of children’s devel- opment; the functions of emotions in personality formation; analysis of gender differences in emotional development; factors that determine emotional maturity; and the prevention of and interventions for negative emotional manifestations”. — Alexander M. Yemelyanov, Ph.D., D.Sc., Professor of Computer Science, MSCS Director, College of Business and Computing “This is an important book that contains a huge amount of empirical data characterizing the emotional sphere of children, adolescents and young men. It reveals trends reflecting the specifics of the development of the emotional sphere of young people, highlighting the dominant factors and personal determinants. Approaches to the psychological support of the emotional sphere of children in difficult socio-psychological conditions of life is outlined. Kostyuk Institute of Psychology “In my opinion this book would be a valuable contribution to the study of this topic and it’s very timely considering that Ukrainian children and adolescents are under enormous emotional stress due to the political instability facing the country. It would find readers in all the countries dealing with the flow of Ukrainian refugees and in the science community in general”. — Inna Bedny, Ph.D., Experimental Psychology EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE EMOTIONAL SPHERE OF CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS AND EARLY ADULTHOOD IN UKRAINE Experimental Study of the Emotional Sphere of Children, Adolescents and Early Adult- hood in Ukraine examines the factors that influence emotional development of young people between 4 and 17 years old. The relevance of studying the characteristics of emotions, their emergence, development, manifestation, recognition and changes attracts the attention of not only scientists, psychologists and practitioners but also other specialists. This is due to the fact that emotions are integrated with almost all functions of the psyche and influence in different ways many human activities. In this aspect, the problem of studying emotions of a developing person for modern psychology is of particular relevance both theoretically and empirically. Despite the number of proposed theoretical approaches which are focused on understanding the patterns of development of the emotional sphere, all of them, as a rule, offer us only a relative idea of the mechanisms and its specificities that characterize this process. As for the applied data concerning development of the emotional sphere of children and young men, they also do not always allow us to reveal the adequate conditions for its formation, and changes based on the specifics of its intensity, regarding age and gender specifics. This book presents relatively holistically supplemented generalized results of the long-term research of various aspects of the emotional development of chil- dren and young men (from 4 to 23 years of age of different sexes). In general, they reveal both theoretical and empirical data characterizing certain tendencies of differences in the characteristics of the emotional sphere in these age groups. The basic studies were mainly conducted on children, adolescents and young men in various Odessa preschools, schools and universities. Thus, in the first chapter “The development of emotional characteristics of 4–6 years old children depending on the conditions of life”, when studying the specifics of the emotional development of children, the emphasis is made on the conditions of their life, that is, upbringing in complete and single-parent
