THE OAKS ADVENTIST SCHOOL An update on The Oaks Adventist School and the significant damage the school facility has suffered resulting from the Hurricane Harvey and the options for the school moving forward was presented by a concerned parent, Mr. J.R. Garcia. While it was noted that Mr. Garcia’s presentation had not followed proper procedure or authorized by the school board, it was felt that allowing for expression of parental concern and giving voice to it was important. 18-090 VOTED, To acknowledge the significant structural damage and emotional trauma The Oaks Adventist Christian School has suffered from the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey and to express assurance to the school board that the process of making decisions of the school’s building/rebuilding options will not be short circuited by allowing individual presentations to the Executive Committee as the school board pursues, through proper protocol, their options. A full report from the school board will be brought to the Executive Committee at a later date. SOUTH TEXAS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY REQUEST It was reported that the Texas Conference Officers met with the South Texas Christian Academy (STCA) Finance Committee. Due to the school’s financial position, payments for academic personnel have not been met. The school is currently working on a balanced budget where they are looking at reducing salary expenses by 25%. The school requested the Officers to visit and listen to a proposal of a full writing-off of $250,000 for the school. Current debt is $600,000 + 18-091 VOTED, to accept the Finance Committee recommendation and approve an additional Teacher Cost discount to be applied to the South Texas Christian Academy debt, as long as monthly payroll payments are received by the 17th of the following month after the bill is received. In addition, STCA must submit a financial statement to the Texas Conference Finance Committee no later than 15 days after the school Finance Committee has met. Exhibit #2 Executive Committee Minutes March 29, 2018 Page 25 18-092 VOTED, to recommend to the STCA School Board that serious consideration be given to revisiting their school’s constitution in an effort to add Valley area churches to their constituency and thus increase enrollment and revenue for the school. SECRETARY’S REPORT The Secretary’s report was presented by Elton DeMoraes, Secretary. It was noted that as of the end of February, the following Texas Conference statistics: SECRETARY’S REPORT, Cont. • Total Membership – 59,271 • Total Church Attendance – 33,501 • Total Churches – 247 • Total Companies – 61 • Total Groups – 9 • Total Schools – 26 The Baptismal/District Alignment for February 2018 were presented as well as the Southwestern Union statistical report for February 2018 was also reviewed. PERSONNEL COMMITTEE MINUTES FOR FEBRUARY 22, 2018 18-096 VOTED, to accept the Personnel Committee Minutes for January 25, 2018. DALLAS LIGHTHOUSE/LAS COLINAS UPDATE Elton DeMoraes is meeting with the church board on Friday, March 30, to begin the search process. . HERNANDEZ, ALLAN - TERMINATION 18-097 VOTED, the termination of Pastor Allan Hernandez (Garland Sp) effective April 30, 2018. The conference will pay for half the expense of breaking his apartment lease. GARLAND FAITH UPDATE The search process continues. Elder DeMoraes will be meeting with them again next week. No action taken. BALBOA, SERGIO - TERMINATION 18-098 VOTED, to terminate the employment of Pastor Sergio Balboa (Dallas Sp West & Grand Prairie Sp) effective March 30, 2018.The conference will pay the remaining of his accrued vacation time. The conference through an Education Department contingency will pay the balance of his children’s school bill for the current school year. JONAKIN, MITCHELL – COUNSELED RESIGNATION 18-099 VOTED, to accept the counseled resignation of Mitchell Jonakin, effective April 30, 2018. DeOLIVEIRA, ROBSON – UPDATE 18-101 VOTED, to remove Robson DeOliveira completely from his district. He will be given a 30-day administrative leave beginning March 29, 2018. DUDGEON, BILL – COLLEGE STATION Bill Dudgeon has been confirmed at College Station, effective April 16, 2018. ALLY, HAFIZ – SAN ANTONIO SCENIC HILLS Per enabling action #18-025, Hafiz Ally has been extended a call to service as Associate Pastor of the San Antonio Scenic Hills Church, effective April 1, 2018.
