The bill unanimously passed the Legislature on February 4, 1966 and was signed into TO: Governor M. Michael Rounds and State Legislators law by Governor Nils A. Boe. The State Arts Council has served the arts in South Dakota now for 40 years. 40 FROM: Brian Bonde, Sioux Falls, South Dakota Arts Council Chair Years of South Dakota Dennis Holub, Pierre, South Dakota Arts Council Director Arts Council Leadership RE: Annual Report FY 2006, July 1, 2005 - June 30, 2006 Council Chairs Warren M. Lee, Vermillion, 1966-71, deceased The South Dakota Arts Council is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this fiscal year. It is a pleasure to submit Charles Thielen, Rapid City, 1971-72 the FY 2006 South Dakota Arts Council Annual Report to the Governor and Legislature. The State Arts Wayne Knutson, Vermillion, 1972-78 Council’s FY 2006 co-sponsored activities reached an audience of 2.5 million people, with 18,325 artists Lynn Friefeld, Brookings, 1978-81, deceased participating in 8,053 separate events. The 530 grants awarded were supported with funds from the State Graham Thatcher, Rapid City, 1981-82 of South Dakota and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Fiscal Year 2006 grant funds Margaret Quintal, Mitchell, 1982-86, currently resides in Vermillion, SD of $977,000 generated $12 million in local cash matching funds. These statistics demonstrate that South Warren Hatfield, Brookings, 1986-91, Phoenix, AZ Dakotans enjoy participating in the arts.
