(Figs.1-3) Somewhatnarrow;shining, darkreddishbrown, femoraandtibiaebright reddishbrown, antennae,tarsiblakishbrown;hairsof inner facesofmiddleandhindtibiaeandmarginsofpy- Fjgs.1_3.Rholnborhina(Rile川bet-/11na)(・1.・ltalea、pno、,..1.habitusinmale(holotype);').habitusinfemale 3.malegenitaliaindorsalview(、cafe:3mm). 58 KAORU SAKAI gidiumblackishbrown. Headrelativelysmall;clypeusdenselypunctate,quadrate,about1.1timesaswideaslong, weaklyarcuateatsides,straightandreflexedatanteriormargin,roundedatanteriorangles. Pronotum transversely trapezoidal, about 155 timesaswideas long, gently convex, sparselyandminutelypunctate, lateralbordersslightlyangulatebehindthemiddle,eachgroove alongthebordersendingbeforeposteriorangle. Scutellumtriangular,nearly1.3timesaslongaswideandalmostimpunctate. Elytraabout145 timesaslongaswide,widestbehindshoulders,marginatealonglateral borders,finelyselTatealongposteriorborders,suturalintervalssharplycarinateinposteriorhalf ofinnermargins,slightlybutshalplyprominentatapices;surfacealmostpolished,transversely rugosenearapices,withsomerowsofminutepuncturesnearbases. Pygidiumtransverselytriangular,about2.3timesaswideaslong,slightlyconvex:surface finelyrugose,withlongsetaealongborders. Fronttibiaslender,withtwoouterteethincludingapicalone,secondtoothobtuseinmale, andwidersecondtoothsharpinfemale.0uter faceofmiddletibiasimpleinmale, frequently unispinousatthemiddleinfemale.Inner faceofhindtibiaclothedwithlongsetaeinbasal2/3. Stomalprocesslonger thanwide,parallel-sidedinbasalhalf,semielliptical inapicalhalf; sutureofmeso-andmetasternumalmostdisappearedattheprocess.Third to fifthabdominal sternitesslightlydepressedinmale,notdepressedinfemale. Malegenitaliaresemblesthoseofotherspeciesinthegenus(Fig 3). Bodylength:31.2~34.4mm;width:14.6~16.8mm. ThisnewspeciesresemblesRhombo,-hina(」R11omborhina)JeanneliRUTER from Yunnan, ChinaandThailandinthebodyshapeandthestructureofsurface,but iseasilydistinguished fromthelatterbythedifferentcoloration(almostblackinthelatter),thenarrowerbodyandthe hindtibiamoresparselysetose. Hete1-orr11ma (Heter・orrhina) borneensis sumatrana subsp nov. Clypeusstronglytransverse,about3timesaswideaslong,denselyandfinelypunctate, angulatebutnotsharplytoothedatanteriorangles;cephalichornstout,arcuatelycurved in lat- eralview,sharpatapex,sometimeswithatuberclebeforethemiddleofdorsalface. Theaedeagiandtheapicalabdominalseg- mentsofmaleandfemaleareillustratedindetailforcomparison. Duringthecourseof thestudyontheJapaneseTachyporinaewefoundaseriesofsma11- sjzedsepedophitus-species,whoseelyu-ahavepairedmarkings.Thesespeciesremarkably resembleS armatus(SHARP, l888),buttheyarereadilydistinguishablefromthelatterbythe absenceofbristlesalongthemarginalareasofelytra,etc.UptothepresentsuchSepedophilus- specjeshavenotbeenknownfromJapanatall.Bythecloseexaminationwecametoaconclu- sionthattheyareclassifiedinto3speciesandasubspecies(Sglabratus,S.9labratusokinawa- exjguusandSelegartli、.,sl,nus).AlthoughtheyhavesuchcommoncharactersastheSmall njs,s body,theelytra1markingsinpair,thehindtibiaewithoutsetae,thechaetotaxyon3rdto6thto「一 gjtes0_1_l_l,themale9thtergitecontinuous,andtheinternalstructureofmedianlobewitha H_shapedor1,ectangularsclerite,SglabratusisdefinitelyseparablefromtheothertwoSpecies bythestructuresofthemidandhindtarsomeresandthefemale8thter9itementionedinthe djagnosjs. Thus,s glabratusandtheothertwospeciesshouldbeclassifiedintothedifferent species-groups.
