I don’t want you to be friends with me at one age only, I want to keep in touch with you all through your childhood days’ Enid Blyton was born in Dulwich, in South-East London, in 1897. When she left school, she trained as and became a teacher. She continued to teach for five years until she married and had children. Enid Blyton had two daughters, Gillian and Imogen, with her first husband, whose name was Hugh Pollock. From a very early age Enid Blyton enjoyed making up stories. She said that she liked making up stories better than she liked doing anything else. She published her first book in 1922. It was called Child Whispers and it was a collection of poetry. She went on to write more than 800 stories and poems. A number of illustrators worked on Enid’s stories, perhaps most famously Eileen Soper, who illustrated The Famous Five. But Enid always carefully checked and approved the pictures in her books Enid Blyton died in 1968 but remains a publishing phenomenon – the greatest children’s writer of the 20th century. She has become one of the best-known and best-loved writers of children’s stories and many of us fondly remember reading her books as children. She is consistently voted a children’s favourite in author polls and even the RAF’s Red Arrows perform the Enid display sequence as homage to her and The Famous Five! ADVENTURE THE FAMOUS FIVE The Famous Five are among Enid Blyton’s best-loved creations and countless children have gone adventuring with them since the publication of Five on a Treasure Island in 1942, the first of twenty-one full-length adventures and numerous short stories. Armed with maps, torches, packets of sandwiches and a plentiful supply of ginger-beer, Julian, Dick, Anne, their tomboy cousin George (Georgina by rights) and Timmy the dog like nothing better than to spend their holidays hiking and biking, camping and exploring by themselves, invariably falling into adventure. Both classic and revised (sensitively updated to bring them into the 21st century) texts available. 40,000 words approx. UK sales average 100,000 a year. 1: Five on a Treasure Island The Famous Five Survival Guide 2: Five Go Adventuring Again 3: Five Run Away Together Adventure Game Book 1 4: Five Go To Smugglers Top Adventure Game Book 2 5: Five Go Off in a Caravan Adventure Game Book 3 6: Five on Kirrin Island Adventure Game Book 4 7: Five Go Off to Camp Adventure Game Book 5 8: Five Get Into Trouble Adventure Game Book 6 9: Five Fall Into Adventure 10: Five on a Hike Together 11: Five Have a Wonderful Time 12: Five Go Down to the Sea 13: Five Go to Mystery Moor 14: Five Have Plenty of Fun 15: Five on a Secret Trail 16: Five Go to Billycock Hill 17: Five Get Into a Fix 18: Five on Finniston Farm 19: Five Go to Demon’s Rocks 20: Five Have a Mystery to Solve 21: Five Are Together Again 22: Famous Five Have a Puzzling Time and Other Stories UK PUBLISHER: Hodder Children’s Books RIGHTS AVAILABLE: World RIGHTS SOLD IN: Benelux (Audio), Chinese (simplified), Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, Vietnam.
