Cardea Blue (pictured), a Diesel Engineman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy, recently completed AERA’s online training course. He has been serving on active duty for about eight years and is cur- rently stationed at at Naval Facilities Engineering Command Public Works Department in Naples, Italy. “This association has higher lev- els of mechanical knowledge and skill,” said Blue. “The course emphasized what I thought I knew and what I didn’t about my job. I learned about safety and hazard controls, mission principles, shop management and more which was way more in depth than ‘A’ school.” His passion for engines and racing started years ago as a kid going to the drag strip with his dad. “Through a sequence of fortunate events, I was always able to stay close to a wrench and always given the opportunity to develop my skill and passion no matter what life threw at me,” Blue said. “I landed my first speed shop job at Rogue Racing out of Orlando, Florida. Later, I worked for a small family-owned sal- vage yard as a mechanic and a parts guy at Advanced Auto Parts.” Still hungry for more knowledge and wanting to further his skills, he enlisted in the Navy. “I remember specifically telling the recruiter that I wasn’t taking any job that didn’t DIRECTLY have something to do with building and maintaining engines,” he said.
