October 1, 2014 TO: AFSCME California Leaders, Activists and Members FR: Willie L. Pelote, Political and Legislative Director, AFSCME California PEOPLE Re: AFSCME CALIFORNIA OFFICIAL ENDORSEMENTS 2014 General I am pleased to share with you AFSCME California’s official endorsements for the 2014 election cycle, as voted upon and approved by delegates to the AFSCME California PEOPLE State Convention on March 24, 2014. AFSCME endorsements are not simply handed out. THEY ARE EARNED. Our affiliates and locals conducted extensive research, reviewed hundreds of questionnaires and participated in countless interviews with prospective officeholders. Our candidates reflect a significant diversity of gender, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, party registration, income and background. The one quality they all share is a commitment to essential public services and the working families providing those services to our communities. It is now our collective responsibility to transform these endorsements into effective demonstrations of support. Speaking with our members and their families about the qualifications of these candidates; participating in phone banks and door-to-door canvassing; talking to our friends, neighbors, faith and community organizations; volunteering with the candidates’ campaign and our Central Labor Councils; joining the AFSCME PEOPLE program as an MVP so we have the needed resources. It’s our turn to prove that an AFSCME endorsement is more than a piece of paper. It’s our turn to fight for those who fight for us. IT’S UP TO US! Join me in congratulating our AFSCME California endorsed candidates. Now let’s get to work!
