Advanced Electrolysis Diploma: Removal of Telangiectasia and Fibrous Blemishes Member of the previous Institute of Electrolysis Member of the previous British Association of Electrolysis Member of the British Institute and Association of Electrolysis Member of American Electrolysis Association C.P.E. (America) Certified Practitioner in Electrolysis Career For the first 2½ years of my professional career, I worked in a general beauty salon carrying out all treatments. However, my employer was an electrologist specialist and taught me a great deal about the wonders of electrolysis and thereby stimulated my love of the subject. In fact, I loved doing it so much I was known to rub electrolysis appointments out of my colleagues’ columns and put them into mine! After working for other people and having two salons of my own, I left the beauty business for a couple of years but came back with a vengeance when I worked for manufacturer and supplier companies Ellisons and Sterex. During my time with both companies I was heavily involved in research and vii viii S R O H development and new product development, particularly with the Sterex T U brand and my work on the development of the Sterex Blend epilator was a A HE career high. I travelled nationally and internationally; lecturing, training, T T selling and above all learning how others around the world carried out U O electrolysis. There are too many highlights to mention but the most B A stimulating or ‘nerve racking’ was carrying out electrolysis treatment on eyebrows, LIVE on GMTV Breakfast programme and, arguably, the one I look back on with the most pride, apart from my equipment development work, was being invited to present a lecture to American electrologists at the American Electrolysis Association’s annual convention and being the first British electrologist to do so. There are not many electrologists who are Chartered Marketers, but having business training and qualifications gives me the best of both worlds through my company ‘The GMT Group’, as we can offer both advanced electrolysis training to qualified electrologists and management and marketing training and consultancy across the professional beauty industry. JANICE BROWN Background According to my father, my interest in beauty treatments and hair removal began very early when I plucked all the hairs from my dolls and painted their faces. Beauty therapy training 1983–1985 Chesterfield College of Arts & Technology Chesterfield, Derbyshire City & Guilds Beauty Therapy, City & Guilds Electrolysis, National Health & Hygiene Certificate Additional training, electrolysis qualifications and memberships City & Guilds 730 Teacher Training D32 and D33 NVQ Assessor Award D34 NVQ Internal Verifier Diploma in Remedial Electrolysis D.R.E. Advanced Electrolysis Diploma: Removal of Telangiectasia and Fibrous Blemishes Member of the previous Institute of Electrolysis Member of the British Institute and Association of Electrolysis Career My first job was as a beauty therapist with Tao Clinic Ltd. I was employed to increase their beauty work as they were primarily an electrolysis company. However, on my first day, one of the electrologists left and I had to do electrolysis for six straight hours! This amount of electrolysis continued for weeks, which created a very quick learning curve, after which I was sent to London for six weeks, Tao training and suddenly decided I loved it – after hating it at college! ix A B I then worked as salon manager for Tao Sheffield spent a brief time as a sales O U T representative for Babor skin care before being asked back to Tao as an area T H manager and training manager where I had responsibility for eight branches, E A plus the training and work standards of the whole group and for all new staff UT H training, including their four-week training programme and regular up-date O R S training. Following a spell as a lecturer at Doncaster College of Further Education, I returned once more to Tao Clinic Ltd as national manager in charge of 20 branches with a team of area managers. My next move saw me become national training manager for the Fraser Muir Group, under the trading name of ‘House of Famuir’. This position involved planning, developing, marketing and delivering of training courses and materials; travelling the world to research new products, including the USA, Canada, the Far East and Europe; testing and advising on potential new products and equipment as well as taking an active role in company public relations, including trade shows, seminars and television appearances. In 2002, with my husband Rob, I took over the House of Famuir from the owner Mr Julian Shuba.
