TP156.E6F5 1990 660'.2S&l4--dc20 89-70980 CIP Preface This book describes more than 1500 emulsifying agents which are currently available for industrial usage. The book will be of value to technical and man- agerial personnel involved in the specification and use of emulsifiers. It has been compiled from information received from numerous manufacturers and dis- tributors of these products. Emulsifying agents find uses in industries ranging from food preparation and processing to drilling fluids, from cosmetics and pharmaceuticals to heavy duty cleaners and degreasers for metal finishing. Textile manufacturers, pulp and paper processors, and agricultural product manufacturers also account for large quantities of emulsifiers. Another important application is emulsion polymeriza- tion systems which yield coatings, polishes, sealants and adhesives. Obviously, the market for these products is broad and new applications are constantly being developed. Types of raw materials used for emulsifying agents include alkoxylates, alkanol- amides, fatty acid esters, imidazolines, lecithins, quaternaries, phosphate esters, natural gums, glycerides, and sulfonates. The data included represent selections from manufacturers' descriptions, in the manufacturer's own words, made at no cost to, nor influence from, the makers or distributors of the materials. Only the most recent information has been in- cluded. It is believed that all of the products listed here are currently available, which will be of utmost interest to readers concerned with product discon- tinuances. The book lists the following product information, as available, in the manu- facturer's own words: (1 1 Company name and product category, vii viii Preface (2) Trade name and product number, (3) Product description including properties and applications, as presented by the supplier. Products are presented by company, and the companies are listed alphabetically. The table of contents is organized in such a way as to serve as a subject index to the book. Also included are a Chemical Name Index and a Trade Name Index, for easy and rapid location of products by the reader. In addition, another sec- tion, which will be useful, contains the Suppliers' Addresses. It can be found immediately following the Product Information section. My fullest appreciation is expressed to the companies and organizations which supplied the data included in the book. The reader may also be interested in another, possibly complementary, volume published by Noy es, entit led Industrial Surfactants January, 1990 Ernest W. Flick NOTICE To the best of our knowledge the information in this publication is accurate; however, the Publisher does not assume any responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of, or consequences arising from, such information. This industrial guide does not purport to contain detailed user instructions, and by its range and scope could not possibly do so. Mention of trade names or commercial products does not constitute endorsement or recommendation for use by the Publisher. In some cases emulsifying agents could be toxic, and therefore due caution should be exercised. Final determination of the suitability of any information or product for use contemplated by any user, and the manner of that use, is the sole responsibility of the user. W,e strongly recommend that users seek and adhere to a manufacturer s or supplier 's current instructions for handling each material they use. The Author and Publisher have used their best efforts to include only the most recent data available. The reader is cautioned to con- sult the supplier in case of questions regarding current availability.
