She lectured at and was sub-head of Psychology at the Bloemfontein campus of Vista University. She held several leadership positions, then opted for a position as student counsellor, one she enjoyed tremendously. She subsequently moved to the University of the Free State to become involved in postgraduate teaching and staff development. Later, in response to a need, she initiated and headed the Staff Wellness Programme. She, along with her staff, hosted bi-annual conferences on work wellness. Annette was the CEO and co-owner of the company Talent and Wellness Management, she developed and presented an array of workshops in the people skills arena within the tertiary sector and the corporate environment. She has run a part-time private practice since 1992, and full time since 2015, where she specialises in stress management, anxiety, mood disorders and trauma counselling. Annette co-edited Counselling in Southern Africa: A Youth Perspective and authored three chapters in the 2009 updated reprint, entitled Handbook on Counselling Youth. At the request of an international publishing house, her PhD appeared in print in 2010 under the title Emotional Intelligence and Leadership: A Work Wellness Perspective. She was editor to Emotional Intelligence: Tipping Point in Workplace Excellence (2011) published by Knowres. Annette has also published articles in a number of accredited and non-accredited journals, and has presented papers at both national and international conferences. She obtained her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology cum laude, and in her final year of study she received the top achiever award. Dr Eugene van Niekerk Eugene C. van Niekerk BA (SA) (Hons) MSc (psychol.) (UCT) D.Litt et Phil (UFH) is a former Associate Professor in Psychology at Vista University - subsequently incorporated into the University of the Free State. He has taught psychology at both the under-graduate and post-graduate levels, including lecturing to psychiatric registrars in the Faculty of Medicine at Free State University. With numerous publications to his credit, Eugene is author and lead editor to a number of books, including, amongst others, Paradigms of Mind – Personality Perspectives in Context (1997) published by Oxford University Press; Counselling in Southern Africa: A Youth Perspective (2001) and Handbook of Youth Counselling (2009), both published by Heineman; and Emotional Intelligence: Tipping Point in Workplace Excellence (2011), published by Knowres. His academic background is also complemented by his work as a psychotherapist and corporate consultant. Eugene’s interests include emotional intelligence; mind-body medicine; mental health in an information society; and iv | how affective neuroscience is able to improve individual and organisational performance. Eugene is presently working on a manuscript, Mind Alive, which essays how the mind can better buttress and even flourish in modern times. He currently lives in Cape Town. Dr Annette Weyers Annette Weyers (PhD) is a senior social worker registered with the South African Council of Social Service Professions (1003918). As a consultant social worker she has been part of the wellness industry for 15 years. She was co-founder of the Centre for Talent and Wellness Management, an organisation that offered professional services to develop human talent and promote wellness. Services to employees included support and interventions through counselling, coaching, inspirational talks and workshops. In 2015 she resigned from the Centre for Talent and Wellness Management to pursue her interest in assisting women in their psychological and spiritual quest for wholeness and meaning. Annette’s interest in the search for meaning stemmed from her work with the personal development of employees, and served as inspiration for her PhD study. As part of her research she attended various international conferences and workshops, and gained valuable experience in various approaches and techniques that support the pursuit for wholeness and meaning. Further to her studies, she also explored feminine psychology, as well as the work of C.G. Jung on the proses of individuation, relative to the quest for wholeness.
