Orientation Leaders and Assistants are stationed throughoutcampustoassistnewstudents with the exhausting task of carrying their belongings to their rooms, while Resident Assistants complete the administrative details ofroom contracts and keys. Greek organizations play an important role as well — moving students in, providing re- freshments to the Orientation and Resi- denceLifestaffs, andgreetingnewstudents and their families. Orientation Week of- ficially begins on Tuesday, with the now famous Orientation Introduction. V J ^ ^The orientation process can be confusing one for new students -- hold eards, ID cards, meal cards, health holds, academic holds, fi- nancialholds. anorienteeisquickly .. overwhelmed. Cheek-in begins in the Charlesgate Beige Room and takes the new student through each clearance, form, and credit evalua- tion. Bytheendoftheweek, students are registered and admitted into class. Orientation 1991-1992; 'Your Channel to Sueeess" was chaired by senior Michelle Parvin, and coordi- nated by Steve Young '92, Deanna Criess '93, Quentin Pittman '93 and Rod Lindheim '93 under the advisorship of Assistant Dean of Students Elena Hirshman-Seidel. Thanks to You All!! Members of the Orientation staff are chosen through an application and interview process in the spring, prior to Orientation. Late in the summer OLs and OAs return to campus to begin training for the Orientation Week ahead. There are important issues to discuss and skills to learn in order to serve the new student population: supportive communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, problem solving, and basic peercounseling and referral techniques are all part of the training process. The Orientation Staff must be able to understand the "innerworkings" ofthecampus, tolendahand inadministrative offices as over 700 freshmen and transfer students work theirway through the Orientation process.
