Fineaggregateangularitylevelsusedinthe Superpavesystemarebelow40,40to45andabove45. Thehighervaluesarespecifiedforlayersnearthesurfaceandforhigher trafficlevels. Theobjectiveofthisstudywastoaddresstheeffectoffineaggregateangularityonasphaltmixtureruttingperformance. A totalof18mixturesweredesignedaccordingtotheSuperpavevolumetricdesigncriteria. Asurfacemixtureutilizingapartially crushed9.5mmcoarseaggregateandasinglePG64-22binderwereutilized. Thepoorqualitycoarseaggregatewasusedtomaximum theeffectsofthevariousfineaggregates. TestsconductedincludedPURWheelLaboratoryWheelTrackingDevice,SimpleShear Test(SST),CompactedAggregateResistance(CAR)test,andFloridaBearingValue. Testresults indicated thatthe useoffineaggregateangularity(FAA)doesnotbe itselfassuregood mixturerutting performance. Otherfactorssuchasmixturegradation,asphaltcontent,dustamountandmixturecompacubilityalsoinfluencemixture ruttingperformance.
