He has worked in the area of child and adolescent anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders for nearly15yearsandin 1998 openedthefirst UKNHSinpatient unitsolely for teenagerswith anorexianervosa.Hehaspublishedwidelyintheprofessionalliteraturewithrecentpapersand chaptersfocusingmostlyonissuesofservicedeliveryandoneatingdisorders.Hehaspresented ontheseinnationalandinternationalconferences. Brett McDermott is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Director of the Mater ChildandYouthMentalHealthServiceinBrisbane,Australia,andanAssociateProfessoratthe UniversityofQueensland.Hehasworkedintheareaofchildandadolescentanorexianervosa and other eating disorders for over 10 years and was the foundation Director of the Eating Disorders Team at the Princess MargaretHospital forChildrenin Perth. He has presented at national and international conferences on eating disorders in children and adolescents and published on this topic, as well as on emotional trauma in children and children’s responses tonaturaldisasters. Cambridge Child andAdolescent Psychiatry Child and adolescent psychiatry is an important and growing area of clinical psychiatry. The last decade has seen a rapid expansion of scientific knowledge in this field and has provided a new understanding of the underlying pathology of mental disorders in these age groups. This series is aimed at practitioners and researchers both in child and adolescent mental health services and in developmental and clinical neuroscience.
