ABSTRACT (Maximum 200 words) This paper outlines the five steps in the public health prevention model and applies them to the problem of injury morbidity and mortality in the U.S. Armed Forces. The five steps are (1) determine the existence and magnitude of the problem, (2) identify the causes of and risk factors for the problem, (3) determine what prevents the problem, (4) implement prevention strategies and programs, and (5) monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of prevention efforts.
