Manyofuscanagreethat ^S Mr. Campedelli wasoneofthesepeople. ^ Mr. Campedelliwastheheartandsoulof not only Drury High School, but the com- ^k munity as well. Few of this year's seniors ^3| ^^ gottoknowhimthroughourcollegesearches, butinstead, weallbecame ^^ friends ofhis through his dedication to being congenial, helpful, and car- ^ ingofeveryonewithintheschool. ^ When this class entered Drury High School in 1999, it was scary enoughtoenterthisschoolknowingverylittleaboutanything,findingthe ^3| onlycomfortinourowngroupoffriends.Wewerequicklyassociatedwith ^^ theguidancedepartmentastheywereinchargeofourschedulingandgettingacquaintedwiththeschool.Mr.Campedelliimmediatelyrelieved ourtensionwithinthefirstmomentsthatweencounteredhim. Lookingathim,withwhatwewouldcometoknowofhisdailyapparel, con- ^ sistedofhalfhisshirt untucked, his belt loopneverfullytucked intohis pants, apieceofhairin thebackofhis head thatwasalways flying out ofcontrol, and his cup ofcoffee in one hand, We all looked at him with some giggles, trying to retain ourselves. But. this image was quicklyerasedas hebegantocomfortusaboutourapproaching high school days, andournervousness meltedawaywith his smile. Jp Astheschoolyearprogressed,werealizedhowimportantthismanwastoallofus. Hiscommonappearancethroughouttheschool,espe- ^J r^ dallywiththehardhatthatheworeduringconstruction, allowedustobecomecomfortablewithamanthatthiscommunityhasrecognized i asbeing remarkable. Hisfriendlyfacewasnotforshowashesoonansweredtothefriendlyhellosof"Hey, Mr. Camp" or"HeyChico!". ^k ^k This longtime head guidance counselorofDrury started in 1967 and remained faithful to this school until his passing. Through his 35 ^^ ^y yearsat Druryhewasableto makeconnectionswith manycolleges, andwas notonlywell-known bymanyinstitutions, but well-respected ^B; J^ bythem as well. He used this edge to his full advantage as hewould fight andalways encouragedisadvantaged individuals tocontinue to ^J ^ furthertheirlearning. Hemadesuretotryandfindcollegesthatwouldmatchastudentspersonallikingandwouldbethebestfit forthem. Hewas alwaysbringing homework, andeventhoughmanyofusthought that he might bea littlescatter-brained, hecontinuallymatched ^k J^ studentswiththebestfittingcollegesforthem personally, andthen helpedto getthemintothem. ^^ ^7 ^B Mr.Campedelliisdescribedasa "greatfriend"andamanthatalwaysknewhispriorities. HelovedGod, hisfamily, andhisjob. andwhen yw hefound some sparetime, he foundenjoyment intalking politicsand baseball (yes, sadly, hewasaYankeefan). His deep loveforthecom- ^J ^ munitybroughthimmuchrespectbynotonlythosewhoworkedwithhim,butmembersofthecommunitywhichincludedbeingaveryclose friendandconfidanttoourmayor. Jt ^^ His legacyis a great one. Hecontinuallyfought forthose who needed the most help in getting intocollege, and it was hewho always ^^ ^W ^ty encouragedunderprivileged studentstoreach fortheirgoalsandtonevergiveupon themselves. His perspectiveoneverythingwasalways j^ well-respected, andit'sthis maninwhichthiscommunityadmired notonlybeforehisdeath, butcontinuestodosoafterwardsaswell. ^J ^ Weall rememberMr. Campedelliasweenteredthis school, andtonight, overfouryears later, wewillcontinuetorecognizehim with the dedicationofour2003yearbook.Wordsfallshortofexpressingeverythingthathemeanttousasacommunity, butwehopethatthisded- ^k ^ky ication ofouryearbookcan show how much we appreciated and acknowledge his dedication to us.
