PARTNERS IN PERFORMING ARTS 1 [ ] Landmark – A Community Treasure Few towns can boast of a community center as unique as Landmark on Main Street. Formerly the Main Street School, in operation from 1909-1985, Landmark was saved from demolition through an amazing community effort. The renovated multi-use building includes four not-for-profit groups, each of which provides services to our region; as well as 59 low-income senior citizen apartments. Located in the heart of Port Washington, since 1995 the not-for-profit organization Landmark on Main Street, Inc. has been charged with managing the Doctor’s Gymnasium and the 425-seat Jeanne Rimsky Theater. The theater has become a cultural gem for our community and a regional gem on Long Island. Our Season – running from October through June - is comprised of more than 35 events. Our diverse programming includes Folk, Broadway/Cabaret, Roots Rock, Acoustic and World Music as well as our Children’s Series, Comedy and Dance Performances. Landmark also offers the free speaker series “Conversations from Main Street” featuring business leaders, authors, educators, celebrities, sports figures and others to discuss important issues of the times. As a community center we respond to community needs; as when we opened our doors to the Port Washington/Manhasset Office of Emergency Management for the Post-Superstorm Sandy Hurricane Recovery Center. Landmark rents the theater extensively to individuals and organizations presenting concerts, theatrical productions, dance recitals and even body-building competitions. Landmark is also home to the Port Washington Children’s Center, Parent Resource Center and Port Youth Council’s Teen Center (known as The PiT) all providing vital services to area residents. The Doctors’ Gymnasium is used by all of these organizations and is also rented to the public. Our mission statement: Landmark on Main Street is a not-for-profit community center that enhances the spirit and enriches the lives of the communities of Port Washington and surrounding regions. Our Core Values build the SPIRIT OF foundation for all we do: Engagement…Community… COMMUNITY Enrichment…Excellence…Welcoming www.landmarkonmainstreet.org / BOX OFFICE 516.767.6444 2 PARTNERS IN PERFORMING ARTS PARTNERS IN PERFORMING ARTS 3 [ ] [ ] 4 PARTNERS IN PERFORMING ARTS 5 [ ] [ ] We are so pleased you have chosen to join us for this performance during Landmark on Main Street’s nineteenth season at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater. Ticket sales cover a portion of our operations but more than ever, we rely on your donations to maintain and improve our historic space and to bring you the best in services and entertainment. In addition to providing high Ed Gold quality entertainment to all in an affordable way, Landmark Co-President on Main Street has opened its doors to the community in times of celebration and times of need. Through a recent Strategic Planning process, we have adopted five core values; that build the foundation for all we do: Engagement, Community, Enrichment, Excellence, Welcoming. To help us meet our mission and support our core values, Suresh Sani please consider participating in our different fundraising Co-President campaigns throughout the year. We hope you will support Landmark’s Spotlight Gala starring Rita Wilson on Saturday, November 9, 2013 by attending or by purchasing a journal ad in tribute to our honorees: Peter Forman, Kirby Veevers & Eric Rubenstein and Tai Wang. Throughout the season you will learn of other important ways you can support Landmark including becoming a Friend of Landmark, our Spring Annual Appeal campaign, becoming Sharon Maier-Kennelly a sponsor, advertising in our playbill or making a gift in Executive Director honor or memory of loved ones, dedication of theater seats and personalized bricks on the grounds. New for this season, we have purchased new speaker racks that will provide a greatly enhanced listening experience. The funding for the new speakers came from a gift from the Estate of Katherine Bandfield. We are so grateful to her for her continued love of Landmark, her former home of Port Washington, even after moving to Florida and for providing so generously for our future in her will. We are very excited about the line-up of artists we are offering this season. We send a most sincere and very special thank you to Dot and Ed Slade who have provided Landmark with an extraordinary gift to fund an incredible performance series. The first event in the Slade Concert Series will be Saturday, May 3 with Mandy Patinkin! We look forward to Welcoming you to our Community…Engaging with you and Enriching We WeLCOMe your life by sharing Excellence in the arts!
