When I work a Shrine event, like the State Fair, or the Flag Ceremony Pork and Wine Festival, I always meet people who the Shrine helped when they were children. They come from all walks of life, work in all professions, and are all people that we can be proud of. When we help the child we help to make the adult. I am also reminded of the Shrine because of the way that my colleagues and I interact. At these conferences the atmosphere is of friends working together for a great cause, the cause of sci- ence. There are thousands of members of LOSNA in the 70 courts across North America. Not long after the third court was formed, the ladies realized the need for a Grand Body. They met on June 24, 1914 to organize the Grand Council. The top official of the Grand Council is entitled Grand High Priestess, the Executive Officer in a local court is the High Priestess. Each year, the Grand Council session is held in May, in the city of the outgoing Grand High Priestess. When the first Shriners Hospitals for Children opened in 1922, the LOSNA Ladies committed to supporting them. To this day, they continue to support the hospital fund. The LOSNA contributes well over half a million dollars every year to the Shriners Hospitals, in addition to funds donated through philanthropic endeavors to the Lady Sharon Heard, High Priestess Shrine Temples. Currently ACCABA has a Past High Priestess Club and two units, a dance unit, The Lady Slippers and our most recent unit is a Klown Unit called the “Klown Arounds” and they will make their debut at the Mid-Eastern Unit Meet in October in Norfolk. The Mid-East Unit Meet is held the first weekend in October at the rotating host court in an area that extends from Vermont to Virginia. ACCABA hosted this event in 2013. During the year, we have a couple special projects for Greenville Hospital, a pillow/pillow case drive and a toy drive. Of course, we are always collecting can tabs and, year to date, we have sent 165 pounds of tabs to Greenville.
