M 献 E S S 词 A G 42 E Dr Lim Kee Ming Mr Chua Huan Theng 42nd President Chairman Ngee Ann Kongsi Ngee Ann Cultural Sub-Committee 48 42 7 2013 235 53 18 42 48 In the midst of celebrating our 48th National Day, Ngee Ann Cultural Centre (NACC) is pleased to organise the National Day Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition for the 4th year running to commemorate the special occasion. Our aim is to provide a platform for our local artists to showcase their finest calligraphy and paintings artworks; whilst, bringing a different type of celebratory event for the audiences. In addition, NACC hopes to propel and promote a more vibrant cultural scene in Singapore. Dr Lim Kee Ming 42nd President This annual exhibition is one of NACC’s major events of the year. Ngee Ann Kongsi Each year, NACC will invite our renowned local artists to participate in this exhibition. Garnering the crème of the crop from both the Chinese and Western arts, such as traditional Chinese calligraphy, Chinese paintings, watercolour, oil painting, woodcarving etc, and audience will be stupefied by the finesse of the works from these outstanding and passionate artists. To cultivate the younger generation’s interest in traditional Chinese calligraphy art and encourage them to pursue the art form, NACC had organised the Students’ Calligraphy Competition 2013 in early July. We have received overwhelming participation from 235 students across 53 primary, secondary and tertiary educational institutions islandwide. The 18 winning calligraphy works will be exhibited along with other established artists, bringing new hope to the future art scene. Dr Lim Kee Ming 42nd President Herein, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all Ngee Ann Kongsi participating artists for their passion in creating such superb works to showcase to the public. At the same time, I would like to thank the audience for their support. Lastly, I wish our nation a happy and prosperous 48th National Day. 48 2013 140 235 18 To celebrate our 48th National Day, Ngee Ann Cultural Centre, a subsidiary of Ngee Ann Kongsi, proudly presents the “National Day Calligraphy & Painting Exhibition 2013”. Held at the Ngee Ann Exhibition Hall during the National Day period, the exhibition is open to all. We hope the public will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for local calligraphy and paintings. More than 140 local artists were invited to exhibit their works, covering a wide range of genre and themes such as Chinese Ink, Chinese Ink Mr Chua Huan Theng (Colour); Western styles of Watercolour, Oil Painting, Woodcarving, Chairman etc, depicting various font types of calligraphy, flowers and birds, Ngee Ann Cultural abstract works, architecture, etc. Sub-Committee The exhibition provides a channel to display the remarkable artworks from local artists, so as to allow the young generation to showcase their talent in traditional Chinese calligraphy art. A total of 235 students from local primary, secondary schools and junior colleges & polytechnics participated in the Student’s Calligraphy Competition 2013 organized by the Centre. The competition aims to promote Chinese calligraphy amongst students. The 18 winning works were stringently selected by a panel of reputable local calligraphers. To spur the students to scale greater heights in their pursuit of Chinese calligrapher, the winning entries will be exhibited alongside the works of local renowned calligraphers and painters. I would like to thank all participating artists for their strong support Mr Chua Huan Theng and schools and students for their enthusiastic response and Chairman participation.
