Edited by W. P. W. PHILLIMORE, M.A., B.C.L., AND EDMUND NEVILL, B.A., F.S.A. VOL. VI. Xonfcon & Issued to the Subscribers by Phillimore Co., 124, Chancery Lane. 1912. ana 90 PREFACE. In this, the sixth volume of the Dorsetshire series, are given the marriage registers of thirteen parishes, six of which it will be seen date from the sixteenth century, the same number from the seventeenth century, whilst one does not commence until the eighteenth century. In all the records of fifty Dorsetshire Marriage Registers have now been issued in this series, more than a fifth of the total number. The editors desire to express their thanks to the various clergy who have permitted the Registers to be printed and afforded facilities for the work of trans- cription. Their names are given under the respective parishes. Special thanks for transcription are due to the Rev. C. F. Medcalf, Mrs. Lewis Paine, M. Richard Hine, Mrs. Cockcraft, of Chickerell the Rev. S. Hinton Roberts, ; the late Rev. Canon Pulliblank, and the Rev. Henry Morland. Several of these Registers were transcribed by Mr. Nevill. The same contractions are made use of as have been adopted in previous volumes. It must be always borne in mind that these printed extracts do not constitute legal evidence, and that for certificates appli- cation must be made to the respective parish clergy. The editors would impress upon their readers the fact that the issue of these volumes is only rendered possible by the enthusiastic help of various volunteer transcribers, and they will therefore welcome help from those who may be willing and able to assist the work in that wav. Volume VII, which, it is hoped, may be issued in the course of a few months, will be devoted to the Marriage Registers of the county town of Dorchester. W. W. P. P. E.N.
