BOOK COMPANY P.O. Box 117 New Lisbon, Wis. 53950 Printed in the United States of America - ...--------------------------~, • THE SUBLIME MISSION ' OF THE ROSARY ' I The "MISSION' of the Rosary is to bring us to a realization of the purpose of our existence and of the l importance of applying the TRUTHS of the Gospel in our daily life and conduct. If, up until now, the praying I of the Rosary has not produced these results, is it not because we have not been properly info nned in its correct use, nor told of its purpose? In consequence of I this lack of sufficient knowledge, then~ we have not been I praying the Rosary with due understanding and devotion. ! Our Blessed Mother once complained: My little chil dren are not taught the true meaning of the Rosary. i ' "When the Rosary is said properly, My POWER is I behlnd it. Say it with My Divine Son and Me in mind, I and ask Me to bring about the true value of this Devo ' :' tion; then each bead said well can conquer a host of men." The great St Bernard, Doctor of fhe Chureh, gives us the correct method of praying the Rosary and if adopted, I I surprisini results will follow. He states in his writing on ' I the subject: ''While your lips pronounce the words let I I your mind 'picture' the Mystery-not as an event which I took place centuries ago, but as events taking place I i NOW in your presence. In each mental picture thus fo1med, see also yourself there in the scene, studying the ' scene. St Bernard warns not to change the mental I 'picture' but Jet it remain unchanged. He states that if the 'picture' is recaJ1ed without change, it will become I• more life-like. A clearer mental picture of each mystery of the Rosary will be attained if only one meditation on a mystery is read a day. Perhaps better effects still would result, if some one would read aloud each of the meditations on the different mysteries while the others of the family listen. After several weeks, the various members of the family should take turns at reading the meditations so that all may share alike the opportunity to profit from the Scriptural promise: "Faith comes through hearing." i i' ' I ' ' I• , DEDICATION To the "Queen of the Holy Rosary and Queen of the , Powerful Scapular of Carro.et" Also to "The Woman" (Mary, the Mother of Christ), referred to in Genesis, Chapter 3 verse 15: "I will put enmities between thee and the Woman, and thy seed and Her seed: She shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for Her heel.,, The Apocalypse, Chapter. 12: "And a great sign ap peared in the heaven: a Woman clothed with the sun, and the moon and stars under Her feet, and upon Her head a crown with twelve stars." St. Peter Damian says of Mary that She is ''The Mother of Troe Peace." For centuries the whole Church has demgnated Her Scapular the Signum Pacis, Sign of Peace. Hence, in our days when peace among nations is so precarious, the Scapular takes on a fresh value in our eyes, i.e., a value Mary has placed there appears in new briJliance. That Si&n commandeers the prayers of the Meniatrix of All Grace and since Peace is effected solely by the disposition of hearts, something Grace alone can effect,· the Scapular can be said to be indeed • a most powerful Sign of Peace. It is to be remembered that absence of conflict is not a state of Peace. When a strong man bullies a weak one to quiet submission, although there is no conflict there is no peace. Only one thing can bring about World Peace, and that is Prayer. World conferences wruch are convened to forestall the crazed thirst of a dictator only feed his ego. Only God, Who alone bas power over hu man wills, can prevent war. Therefore, it is both vocal and mental prayer. The mental prayer consisting of the Meditations, while the vocal is · made up of the Our Father, the perfect prayer, the Hail Mary, the Angels salutation to Mary as He informed Her that She was chosen to be the Mother of God, and the "Glory Be" in which the Blessed Trinity is recognized and honored. Speaking to Blessed Alan one day, Our Lord said, "If only these poor wretched sinners would say My Rosary, they would share in the Merits of My Passion and I would be their Advocate and would appease My Father's Justice." On another occasion Our Lady revealed to Blessed Alan, "that after the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, which is the most .important as well as the Living Memorial of Our Blessed Lord's Passion there could not be a finer devotion or one of greater merit than that of the Rosary." Naturally, it will be of interest to those who sincerely hope and strive to go to Heaven as soon as possible after their death, that Our Blessed Mother said, "I want you to know that, although there are numerous indulgences al ready attached to the recitation of My Rosary, I shall add many more to every fifty Hail Marys ( each group of five decades) for those who say them devoutly, on their knees, being of course, free from mortal sin. And whosoever ~ball persevere in the devotion of the Holy Rosary, saying these prayers and meditations, shall be rewarded for it; I shall obtain for them full remission of the penalty and of the guilt of all his sins at Lhe end of his life. Do not be uo- • believing, as though this is impossible. It is easy for Me to do because I am the Mother of the King of Heaven, and He calls Me 'Full of Grace.' And being 'Full of Grace,' I am able to dispense Grace freely to My dear children." The Rosary is the "Root and the storehouse of many blessings. Through it: sinners are forgiven, souls that are fettered have their bonds broken, those who weep find hap piness, those who are tempted find peace, the poor find help, religious are reformed, those who are ignorant are _instructed, the living learn to overcome pride, the dead (the Holy Souls) have their pains eased by prayer and sacrifice." For far too long, sincere good Christians, clergy and laity, have not given full consideration to the outstanding and beautiful promise by the Mother of God at Fatima 1917 when She said, "When enough people will pray the Rosary every day, Russia will be converted and an Era of Peace granted to the World." C.Onsidering the threat of a Nuclear War and the even more devastating holocaust of Divine Chastisement, that apparently is very close, should not every Christian start now, today, to say at least five or whenever possible the full fifteen decades. For proof in our time of the ''Power of the Rosary,'' see Brazil's Victory over Communism, "The Country that Saved Itself," Reader's Digest, Nov. 1964. Also The Victory in Chile 1973• .
