Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance 1 DIPLOMA IN ISLAMIC BANKING AND FINANCE Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance 2 PROGRAM OVERVIEW INTRODUCTION Islamic finance are becoming increasingly popular around the world. Although, Islamic or shariah finance is a relatively new concept to be introduced to the financial world periodically, it is one of the fastest growing segments of global financial services. In order to fulfill the Islamic finance needs from the Islamic perspective, Department of Polytechnic Education (DEP) has worked collaboratively with the nation’s key industry players in developing the curriculum for this programme. The collaboration aims to equip students with up-to-date knowledge and relevant skills to meet the global challenges and the requirements set by the Islamic banking industries. This is true especially in the Islamic financial world where there is a rapid demand for Islamic practice in finance industry. In fact, almost all the financial sectors integrate Islamic practice as a part of their system. One of the most important factors in gearing towards the growth of productivity is the needs for qualified manpower in this area so that the industry will develop significantly and remain competitive in the global market. To address this issue, the Curriculum Development and Evaluation Division (CDED) has cooperated with the local industries to develop the curriculum and thus introduces Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance programme. This programme gives the students a lot of opportunities to acquire the needed knowledge as well as to undergo industrial training during their fourth semester in order to be exposed to the real working world particularly in banking sector. This will give the students the knowledge and skills that are relevant to the needs of the Islamic finance industry. Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance 3 SYNOPSIS Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance is designed to introduce students to the Islamic finance and financial system which are now among the fastest growing segments of global financial services. This programme provides knowledge and skills in Fiqh Muamalat, Usul Fiqh, Qawaid Fiqqiyah, Akidah Islamiyyah, Akhlak Islamiyyah, Contract in Islamic Finance, Ethics in Islam, Islamic Investment, Islamic Bank Management, Islamic Accounting, Islamic Capital Market, Islamic Economics, Islamic Financial System and etc. This programme also exposes the students with the operational aspect of Islamic banking and finance and how it can fulfil the financing requirements of the customers as well as the investment. Moreover, the concept and application of Islamic products are also adequately covered. In addition to the programme, the students are also taught Business Mathematics, Principles of Marketing, Statistics, Entrepreneurship, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Fundamentals of Accounting to enhance their knowledge and competency in communication and other aspects of soft skills. As the programme emphasizes self- initiated learning and hands-on competency, graduates of this programme will be ready to take up the challenges and competitions present in the Islamic finance world Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance 4 PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO) The Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance programme shall produce semi professional who are: 1.knowledgeable, technically competent in Islamic Banking and Finance discipline and able to adapt themselves with new technological advancement and challenges in Islamic Banking and Finance fields. 2.effective in communication and able to prepares them with social skills, leadership qualities and willing to be responsible towards developing country and community. 3. capable to solve Islamic Banking and Finance problems innovatively, creatively and ethically to secure organizations against internal and external security threats. 4. able to demonstrate entrepreneurship skills and recognize the need of lifelong learning for successful career advancement. Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance 5 PROGRAMME AIMS (PAI) Graduates in Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance from Polytechnic, Ministry of Higher Education will possess the knowledge, operational skills, soft skills and attitudes that enable them to produce human capital that are well-versed in the principles and concept of Islamic Banking. Graduates should be responsible, ethical, professional and able to work effectively, collaboratively and accentuate Islamic Shariah banking. They can apply their managerial and entrepreneurial knowledge and skills. Graduates should possess good public relation and communications skills in contributing to the growth of Islamic Banking practice in the industry. Graduates will be able to develop critical thinking, face the challenges, foster good work attitudes in the financial markets and continuously enhance their knowledge and skills. Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance 6 PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOME (PLO ) 1. apply fundamental principles of Islamic Banking and Finance, and soft skills in Islamic Banking and other related areas to be outstanding and successful in the future. 2. use skills to meet the industrial requirements and adapt to the challenges in the industrial world 3. communicate effectively with Islamic Banking and Finance Professionals, other professionals and community. 4. use appropriate tools and techniques to recommend effective solutions in encountering threats and risks of an organization's information. 5. develop an effective and excellent teamwork to meet the common goals. 6. engage in life-long learning and professional development to enrich knowledge and competencies. 7. inculcate entrepreneurial skills in the related discipline that contributes towards national growth and be competitive in Islamic Banking and finance industries. 8. adhere to professional codes of ethics and enhance humanistic values to adapt to the real challenges in working environment. 9. demonstrate effective leadership responsibility JOB PROSPECTS The knowledge and skills that the students acquire from this programme will enable them to venture in the job market such as: ASSISTANT BANK OFFICER ( AT LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL LEVEL)  STOCK BROKER / REMISER  ZAKAT CENTRE ADMINISTRATOR  UNDERWRITER |TAKAFUL AGENT  FINANCIAL CONSULTANT  ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATIVE EXECUTIVE | UNIT TRUST EXECUTIVE  MARKETING EXECUTIVE  ASSISTANT ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE  ENTREPRENEUR  FINANCIAL PLANNER Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance 7 REGULATIONS FOR COURSE REGISTRATION COURSE REGISTRATION Students must: 1. Register courses within seven (7) days after semester begins. 2. Obtain the advice from Academic Advisor (PA) before register. 3. Submit the completed form to the Academic Advisor (PA) 4. Finally get the signature of Academic Advisor and Head of Department. COURSE CREDIT Credit for each course is as stated in the Dokumen Kurikulum dan Struktur Kursus approved by Lembaga Kurikulum Kursus Pengajian dan program Latihan Politeknik. Number of credits to be taken by the student for each semester is between Twelve ( 12) to Twenty (20) or as specified in the Dokumen Kurikulum dan Struktur Program. The minimum credit amount to be accumulated by the students before they are eligible to be considered for the award of a certificate are stated in the Dokumen Kurikulum dan Struktur Program. CARRY COURSES/CARRY SEMESTER Students need to repeat all failed courses (grade point <2.00) including the General Courses (such as Islamic Studies, Civilization etc) and the Dicipline Courses. Students with carry courses must discuss and get advice from Academic Advisor (PA) and approved by Head Of Department. Students should repeat all the learning activities of the courses in addition to other courses for that semester. DROP/ADD COURSES Students who have registered for courses can drop or add courses, provided that the number of credit hours for that semester no less or no more than a specified number of credit hours. Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance 8 The dropping and adding courses must be done within the prescribed period and they must seek for advice from Academic Advisor (PA) and approval from Head of Department. Drop/Add courses can be done during the third to six (3rd – 6th) week of the semester. ATTENTION Students who have registered should follow the learning activities for the course. In order to evaluate the learning activities undertaken by a student, students must achieve a minimum percentage of attendance.
