Within our history lies our hope. Digging the Wells of
Revival draws our attention to the spiritual inheritance of our
country. From Azusa Street in Los Angeles at the turn of this
century, to Toronto, Baltimore, and Brownsville as we face the
next century, Lou Engle reminds us that what was, can be what
is—where waters once flowed freely, they can again spring
forth in this generation.
In this book, Lou Engle challenges us to revisit the land-
marks, renew the commitments, redig the wells, and let revival
and anointing break forth as never before. Is it happening? I

This book is first dedicated to the memory of those pioneers
of the faith in Los Angeles who, through sacrificial prayer and
obedience, opened up rivers of the Holy Spirit for thousands to
drink from—fathers and mothers like Frank Bartleman, Aimee
Semple McPherson, and John Wimber, upon whose shoulders a
new generation in Los Angeles now stands.Secondly, I owe
such a debt to my own father and mother, Gordon and Eunice
Engle, who released such a godly inheritance upon me. Your
prayers and altars took hold of my life at an early age. May I
be graced to raise up such a godly seed as you have done.
Ché, what a friend and comrade. Your faith in me and your
encouragement have carried me forward. I wouldn’t have
made it under any other pastor. Revival in Los Angeles!
Most of all, I give thanks to my wife, Therese, my
“Hallelujah lassie,” who has believed in me, prayed for me,
and put up with my fasting and the quirks of an intercessor.
You have given me a foundation from which to write this book
by pouring yourself selflessly into our children, Christy Joy,
Jesse, Josiah, Jonathan, Gloria, and Jacob. Children, may you
rise up and dig the well of your father and mother.
Finally, I dedicate this book to the original and ultimate
Father, my heavenly Father. Thank You for Your covenants of
love released to my fathers and for calling me to sonship. I cry,
