English summary: Demetrios Kydones, statesman in a leading position under two emperors of the late Byzantine (14th Century) Empire, left behind a rich literary work in the ancient Greek literary language of the Byzantines, including speeches of political content and theological and philosophical treatises. Particularly noteworthy are his Latin translations of theological works, including the summaries of Thomas Aquinas, and many (about 450) private letters on a wide range of topics, which were fully edited for the first time in 1956/60 by R.-J. Loenertz. Franz Tinnefeld translated this corpus into German in the years 1981-2003 and provided a detailed commentary. On the basis of this translation he now creates a literary analysis of the letters structured by topic, whereby necessary biographical background is explained in each case. The volume is supplemented by a chronology of the biography of Kydones, the German translation of his speech to Emperor Johannes V, which was of particular biographic importance, and detailed indices (letter lists, people, places, and things). Jh.), hinterliess ein vielfaltiges literarisches Werk in der altgriechischen Literatensprache der Byzantiner, darunter Reden politischen Inhalts sowie theologische und philosophische Traktate. Besonders hervorzuheben sind seine Ubersetzungen lateinischer theologischer Werke, darunter die Summen des Thomas von Aquin, und zahlreiche (ca. 450) Privatbriefe zu einer weiten Palette von Themen, die erstmals 1956/60 von R.-J. Loenertz vollstandig ediert wurden. Franz Tinnefeld hat dieses Briefcorpus in den Jahren 1981 bis 2003 ins Deutsche ubertragen und mit einem ausfuhrlichen Kommentar versehen. Auf der Basis dieser Ubersetzung legt er nun eine nach Themen gegliederte literarische Analyse der Briefe vor, deren biographischer Hintergrund, soweit zum Verstandnis notwendig, jeweils erlautert wird. Der Band wird erganzt durch eine Zeittafel zur Biographie des Kydones, die deutsche Ubersetzung seiner biographisch besonders wichtigen Rede an Kaiser Johannes V. und ausfuhrliche Indices (Briefliste, Personen, Orte und Sachen).
