professional journals. Dr. Corr has received awards from ADEC, Children’s Hospice
International (CHI), the Center for Death Education and Bioethics at the University
of Wisconsin–La Crosse, the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation, and Southern
Illinois University Edwardsville. In 2016, he received IWG’s Herman Feifel Award for
Outstanding Achievement in Thanatology.
Donna M. Corr, RN, MS in Nursing, has experience in open heart, kidney transplant,
oncology, and hospice nursing. For 17 years, she was a faculty member (rising from
Instructor to Professor) in the Nursing Faculty of St. Louis Community College at
Forest Park in Missouri, and then a Lecturer for two semesters at Southern Illinois
University Edwardsville. Her publications include five books coedited with Charles
Corr: Hospice Care: Principles and Practice (1983), Hospice Approaches to Pediatric
Care (1985), Nursing Care in an Aging Society (1990), Sudden Infant Death Syn-
drome: Who Can Help and How (1991), and Handbook of Childhood Death and
Bereavement (1996), as well as two dozen book chapters and articles in professional
journals. Books edited by Donna and/or Charles Corr have received five Book of the
Year Awards from the American Journal of Nursing.

About the AuthoRS v
Kenneth J. DoKa, PhD, FT, is a Professor of Counseling at the Graduate School of The
College of New Rochelle, an ordained Lutheran minister, a licensed mental health
counselor, and Senior Consultant to The Hospice Foundation of America, for whom
he hosts annual teleconferences and edits the monthly Journeys: A Newsletter to Help
in Bereavement. Dr. Doka introduced the groundbreaking concepts of disenfran-
chised grief and adaptive grieving styles. His publications include over 100 chapters
and articles in professional journals, as well as 35 books, the most recent of which
are Disenfranchised Grief: New Directions, Challenges, and Strategies for Practice
(2002), Counseling Individuals with Life-Threatening Illness (2009), Grieving
beyond Gender: Understanding the Ways Men and Women Mourn (2010), and Grief
Is a Journey (2016). A long-time member of both ADEC (President, 1993–1994) and
IWG (Chairperson, 1997–1999), Dr. Doka is editor of Omega, Journal of Death
and Dying, one of the major professional journals in this field. His awards include
a Special Contributions to the Field Award from ADEC and he was the recipient
of the Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater, Concordia College. Addi-
tional awards came from the Scott and White Medical System, the Billy Esposito
Foundation, and the Center for Death Education and Bioethics at the University of
Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
