The project is approximately 9 miles upstream of the town of Ryegate (Figure 2). The reservoir is fed by a supply canal from the Musselshell River. Figure 3 provides a general layout of the dam, dike and gatehouse. Water is delivered to the water users through the Barber and Careless Creek canals. The dam owned by the Montana Department of Natural is resources and Conservation (DNRC). The Deadman's Basin Water Users Association operates the dam. The earthfill dam and dike were completed in 1941. Dam Deadman's Basin is 60 feet high and 1,490 feet long, while the dike is 18 feet high and 2,950 feet long (Figure 3). Enlargement work in 1958 included raising the embankment crest of the dam and dike by 10 feet, and incorporating three original dikes into one. The dam's outlet works consist of a wet tower and two 60-inch by 60-inch cast iron slide gates with controls near the top of the tower. There is no spillway. Water from the reservoir is used primarily for irrigation water supply. The reservoir also is used for water-based recreation. Some cabins are located on the southeast side of the reservoir between the dam and the dike. Revised 1999 1 I! s ^© u o O > t 5 U ca E —c o« ca u Q V S OX) Revised 1999 2 3 Revised 1999
