Approved Services: English Language Arts ScopeE ssay Writing: is perhaps the strongest aspect of our program. Our
teachers model different genres of essays for our students before we ask them to compose their
own. Narratives, Expository Essays, Argumentative Essays, Analytical Responses, and Research
Reports will all be expected of our students. On average, our students write about 12 essays during
the school year. Read and Response: is another key aspect of our curriculum. The goal is for
every student to read all of the compositions in their respective anthology books and answers the
response questions that accompany them. Our lower grade students use Journeys and our
Middle/High School students use Collections. Our tutors explain difficult passages to students for
comprehension and check their answers afterward. Grammar: We explore many different
aspects of grammar. We spend a majority of our time on syntax and diagramming sentences. We
also practice editing and learning key grammatical terms. Vocabulary: All students will be
required to complete a grade-appropriate Wordly Wise 3000 workbook. There are many core
exercises that will familiarize the students with proper test-taking techniques. P oetry: is the most
unique aspect of our program. Not only do we study classical poems in depth, but we also
memorize at least five a year. Some of our students were able to accomplish more than that. After
memorization is complete, we make sure to test our students on recognizing poetic devices and
